* How’s everything going?…
Ok I went down a dark hole to figure out how Illinois ended up on this map and long story short a bull shark made it into Lake Michigan in 1955 and bit a boy. There have though been ZERO shark attacks since @GovPritzker was elected. https://t.co/Yi4X32wZ9y

Now that’s crazy. I won’t ask about New Mexico or Missouri.

Could be a “killer” campaign slogan — I kept Illinois safe from shark bites!!!

According to Ken Griffey, yet another reason why people are fleeing Illinois.

JB: Ah, not a shark in site. That new Shark Patrol must be working like a charm!
Caprara: By your logic, I can claim this rock keeps tigers away.
JB: That rock keeps tigers away?!

I wrote a paper about that shark attack for an urban folklore class. Before I did my research, I was positive it was, well, folklore. Imagine my surprise.

I’m not worried about a shark coming at me. Grandal will block it.

More like there have been no shark attacks since Gov. Kerner was elected. (1955 was during Stratton’s first term).

No shark attacks in Illinois in my lifetime.
No thanks necessary.

Worked with a guy whose father was a commercial fisherman on the Mississippi/Ohio around the confluence.
Said it wasn’t unusual to see a dorsal fin break the surface every so often.

Looks like a 2005 incident in a display tank at an aquarium in Albuquerque.

What about Michael “Jaws” Giorango, he bit Alexi.

Amalia- true. But if the shark tries to steal second, Grandal couldn’t throw him out.

The flagship American political science survey, the American National Election Studies, asked a national sample in 2020 if they’d been bitten by a shark. Why? um …
It turns out that people massively overreport shark bites in national polling however (due to … social desirability bias? Why? um…) So, I think this is a much more accurate measure.

Bull sharks have been tracked or caught all the way up the Mississippi to Minnesota.

Back in 55, did the bull shark stay around and create the payday loan industry?

Followed the Chicago Historical Society’s Chicago Timeline all weekend. They (I should say he, I think it was Robert Loerzel) were doing a minute by minute telling of the great Chicago fire using contemporaneous reports and narratives. I really enjoyed it.

I know someone who was vaccinated, and then killed by a shark. So clearly, the vaccine killed him.

New Hampshire is the only state with an ocean coastline (only about 15 miles, but still) that has no reported shark attacks.

The San Jose Sharks are 54-36-5 all time against the Blackhawks… pretty good record especially against a Chicago team that won three Cups (but the Hawks did sweep them in the 2010 playoffs)
