* I hadn’t heard of this until Abdon Pallasch called me to point it out. National Illinois Day?…
Today is #NationalIllinoisDay đž
Ever wonder how Illinois got its name? The word Illinois is said to have been derived from the Native American word âIlliniwek, which means âtribe of superior menâ.

House Majority Leader Greg Harris has a daily Facebook post telling us the weird national days (National Microwave Day was yesterday, for example), but even he hasn’t posted about it. I feel almost superior right now.
* People and groups are using the “holiday” to publicize various events and milestones, like banning foam…
Today is #NationalIllinoisDay & we have a reason to celebrate! This summer, IL adopted a law that prohibits #PFAS laden firefighting foam. This is a step in the right direction to address PFAS contamination. @sonyala recently wrote a blog about this law: https://t.co/XwbEwy5zkG pic.twitter.com/rAVAOKBX6D

* Origin claim…
In 2017, National Day CalendarÂŽ began celebrating each state in the order they entered the union starting the week of Independence Day and ending with Hawaii. We highlight a small part of each statesâ history, foods and the people who make up the state. Many states have their own state celebrations, and National Day Calendarâs observances in no way replace them.
…Adding… Abdon’s boss…
Did you know itâs âNational Illinois Day?â From Cairo to Chicago, Illinois is a great state to travel around for work and play. We have tons of nature and history to explore. Thatâs part of why I love to call Illinois home. Happy #NationalIllinoisDay! #twill pic.twitter.com/rrRNIdbipv

Stock footage of a person making a non-deep dish pizza and of a fictional I-90 interchange (that wouldn’t be anywhere near Route 66 even if it did exist.) Thanks for the personal touch, Credit Union 1.

I presume that’s an older poster in the Serve Illinois tweet. It lists Illinois as the 5th most populous state, but as of the 2020 Census we are the 6th most populous.

I thought Illinois was an Algonquin word that translates to “Land where quality football is not played”.

The anniversary of Pearl Harbor seems like an odd date to choose. Or maybe the perfect date?
Shouldnât it be December 3?
