* Politico…
Republican gubernatorial candidate Jesse Sullivan has carefully maneuvered around questions about the extent of his support for former President Barack Obama. Some oppo research that landed in Playbook’s inbox addresses the issue.
In the One World magazine that Sullivan founded while a student at St. Louis University in the 2000s, Sullivan acknowledged supporting Obama. The magazine’s “Call to Action” box on page 22 encourages readers to support the Global Poverty Act introduced by then-Sen. Obama. And there’s a note: “OneWorld does not endorse a specific presidential candidate (although Jesse Sullivan does).”
That doesn’t mean Sullivan voted for Obama, but it doesn’t mean he didn’t. His campaign would say only that Sullivan has voted Republican for nearly a decade.
“Jesse Sullivan didn’t grow up in a political household — he knew more about the Chicago Bears than he did about any politician. His values have always been deeply rooted in his faith — pro-life, pro-family, pro-freedom,” spokesman Noah Sheinbaum said in an emailed statement. “Through his work and his life, Sully has found that Democrat politicians have been lying to him and to voters, over and over again, implementing radical policies that are out of touch with the values of everyday Illinoisans. He has only voted for Republicans for nearly a decade.”
Hmm. Ask Kirk Dillard how Obama support went over in statewide Republican primaries.

Public support of Obama? Get the fork ready. He’s just about done.

So Bailey has to worry about Rabine and Schimpf?
Don’t see too many sleepless nights there.
Oh, I forgot. That “moderate” Republican that so many have convinced themselves will magically appear but has yet to do so.

I’m sure that the Republican base will flock to a candidate who founded a magazine called “One World”.

Taking Sullivan’s positions at face value: that he was a socially conservative, not very politically active, but socially conscious college kid who wanted to help relieve global poverty in the same way Jesus cared for the poor and the downtrodden…
It is extremely telling that this is all antithetical to winning a Republican primary.

I’m already tired of Sully.

It’s 8 years later than when Dillard last ran. Maybe Republicans aren’t as motivated by Obama hate anymore. I tend to doubt it (or, maybe more to the point, Sullivan isn’t really giving Republicans a compelling reason to vote for him, so even if this is a minor reason to vote against him, it’s a problem).
But the bigger problem I say is that homeboy is just getting battered by oppo right now. He’s not getting his story out at all, and the “Secret Democrat” narrative is getting filled in fast.
Now, it’s early. No one is paying attention. But I think you just can’t be too impressed by his campaign’s chops right now.

Interesting how many sullivan signs are appearing regardless of these developments.

Yep Flea, I counted and he has 14 million signs up! Is it just Sullivan who is a pathological liar or is it your whole delusional team?

Dunno where you are, but I see a bunch in Springfield. But since Sullivan is from Petersburg, and since Butler is on board, I’m not sure it demonstrates wide support so much as just a quirk of geography.

$11 million will buy a lot of signs, but signs don’t vote.
I have to imagine this Obama endorsement will Sully his good name in a GOP primary.

Nothing like flushing $10 million because no one thought his own oppo was bad.
I’m sure the gym bros will be cool with it.

“Sullivan signs”
Okay, I’ll play. Down here, it’s Bailey, Bailey, Bailey. With the rare Schimpf.

Signs. Don’t. Vote.
Friendly reminder.

Just like we worry about more Brady’s from Bloomington and the fate of our dogs, it seems appropriate to do some hand ringing over fate of the annual Sullivan St. Patrick’s fest and this guy.

“Through his work and his life, Sully has found that Democrat politicians have been lying to him and to voters, over and over again,…”
Ergo…Sully should be able to see right through himself…over and over again.
