The rollout has been more embarrassing than even I thought it could be. Maybe just getting all the hiccups out of the way early. Or maybe this is the trend. I don’t know.

Maybe he thought they said “wealth” instead of health? As in, for the right price, he could see himself moving on from being Mayor.

Money covers a great many sins, even if the sin is to go back on your word because money talked.

I don’t think is in any danger of having to go back on that.

If Bailey has his way then Irvin will be able to keep that promise

There is rarely a penalty for breaking these pledges, but it’s still goofy. Guy is not exactly building a reputation for consistency.

Equally iunteresting is this quote when asked”
Q- What are your thoughts on the national and local coronavirus response? Do you favor measures such as limiting operation of non-essential businesses and restricting indoor/outdoor dining? And do you favor a local mask mandate?
“…At times, the government did well, at other times we saw a U.S. government that entirely failed us…”
Is that a criticism of the Trump admin?
in that same thread he also is quoted as saying this..
“…I believe that some businesses can open safely and responsibly, which relies on both face masks and social distancing…”
I wonder how long it will take the Bailey folks to jump on that?

Meh… politicians get a free pass all the time when being coy about running for a certain office. Irvin should be afforded the same.

=== when being coy about running for a certain office===
You… think that’s coy? lol
Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Jan 18, 22 @ 2:34 pm
This is a nothingburger. The Governor wasn’t being coy when he said he’d veto any partisan map, and he was given mostly a free pass. Because voters know politicians are going to politician.
This election is shaping up to be about crime, inflation and education. The opposition needs to change the message to something more meaningful than “but…but…he said he would be Mayor for all 4 years” otherwise they will get beat bad on those issues.

A. Depends on the offer.

Years ago I used to believe this and always thought I can’t believe they would do that.
Older and wiser me now thinks if they can do bigger and better things, especially if it will benefit wherever they came from in the first place, is actually a solid move. Plus if your Aurora do you think the man who grew up in the projects there and worked his way up to Mayor isnt going to help?
Seem to recall a really popular freshman Senator who told everyone now way he’d ever run for President he just got elected US Senator too much work to do.

This total ignorance to abortion and what it might be, versus some this “I know it will be about” silly…
Could be really surprising for those not ready for suburban women being told how Republicans are dangerous to their health, and Bourne words to HB40…
… these 6 months, so much is gonna evolve… but, Irvin chose to run, even after saying nothing would prohibit..,

Of all of the inconsistencies and mixed messages that have been attached to Irvin I probably find this to be the least concerning. And it always seem to come down to who’s breaking the promise when we gauge the outrage. Last week we heard kept hearing about how Mendoza was vulnerable because she ran for Mayor after being elected Comptroller.
More concerning to me is the suggestion that Griffin and Irvin have never met but look forward to getting to know one another. Our last Republican governor also seemed to clam up when asked about his ties to Ken Griffin. It’s not a good sign.

Even he doesn’t think he’s going ever actually be elected Governor.
Comment by Candy Dogood Tuesday, Jan 18, 22 @ 3:42 pm
I don’t like this question asked of any politician. Even if he was thinking of maybe running for something else later who knows what he thought about this particular term in office.
Is he supposed to say “well if this guy dies suddenly I might throw in for that seat?”
It’s like all the folks trying to make it a thing that Obama was saying no to running for president in the weeks leading up to his announcement.

You shouldn’t mistake one entry on Rich’s blog for a centerpiece of the Governor’s re-election campaign message.

I haven’t heard anyone from the Pritzker campaign saying this. It was something a political junky buddy sent me yesterday and it got lost in the shuffle.
So, take a breath already.

That was then. This is now. 10 months ago, I didn’t have any money to run for governor. Now I have a billionaire bankrolling my campaign.

Sad day for Illinois when Ken Griffin compromises his integrity for a democrat. Maybe he should take his business out of state.

=== Illinois when Ken Griffin compromises his integrity for a democrat.===
“Sure, Jan.”
Griffin cares about Griffin,
You think party matters if Pritzker would bust up unions and end pensions, collective bargaining…
Your purity is the ridiculousness that brought Rauner and Griffin and allowed them to wholly buy the GOP brand, even before Trump.
It’s a quote, not a partisan take in any way to that direct question to that.
