  6. Roads are improving in my corner of the world down here, and crews are out working hard. Sunshine and no wind are really helping to get things going and cleared better. On a lighter - gotta love the neighbor down the road - he’s been out since sun up clearing everyone’s driveways etc. Does it with every snowfall “for fun”. Rural southern Illinois still has so many good people. The senior citizens in this household appreciate him more than ever these days. We’ll trade him fish and garden stuff come warm weather.

  7. My neighbor the Trump flag flying conservative, came over with his tractor and dug the Give Me A Break family out and plowed our drive which from garage to county road. That’s over 200 yards.

He told me, “you liberals problem have battery powered snow blowers and they won’t cut it out here”.

He’s a great guy who always helps us out and shares cold ones with me on the deck in the Summer. Goes to show the narrative we are all at war with each other is not always right.

  8. Re: Irvin’s comments on Abortion in the Flannery interview, who was the last pro-life politician to win a statewide campaign in Illinois. Peter Fitzgerald in ‘98? Anyone I’m blanking on?

  9. “Does it with every snowfall “for fun”

Exactly. It’s amazing how many good Samaritans show up in Central and Southern Illinois. I was using my snow blower, when a neighbor stopped and asked if I’d prefer for him to simply run his snow plow through. He was on his way to taking care of a 88 year old man’s driveway.

  11. Anyone know why the IL Director of Labor suddenly resigned along with the health and safety manager for the same agency?

  12. Kina Collins (running for Davis’s seat) just emailed me to say she was proud of being arrested at the Laquan McDonald protest yesterday. While I share her dissatisfaction with VanDyke’s sentence, I am bothered by the suggestion that VD got some sort of special treatment in getting an “early release.” Anybody who has a basic understanding of criminal justice in IL knew, without a doubt, that VD would get good time credit - just like every other convicted person in IL. I know they’re politicians, and everything is politics, but not protesting 3 years ago and bragging about getting arrested today just bothers me.

  13. Pundent- yes, quite a performance by the Frightening Illini. That Kofi guy was amazing. 16 of 19 for 37 points. Reminiscent of Bill Walton vs Memphis State.

  14. === Rural southern Illinois still has so many good people. ===

Plowing a neighbors snow and then voting to take away their healthcare and rights. Let’s not forget about supporting a candidate whose immigration policy is to literally separate infants from their mothers and then cage the children.

If you want to discuss a region, you have to look at the big picture. Heck, you’re even qualifying Southern Illinois with rural. What’s wrong with urban Southern Illinois?

I’ve seen how rural counties in Southern Illinois tend to vote. “Good people” cannot be in the majority in those counties. We can try to over look 2016, but they knew what they were buying in 2020 and look how they voted. It’s important to have these conversations now so that in a couple of decades we’re not having a conversation about how we need to take “collective responsibility” for what those “good people” did.

The epitome of no good deed goes unpunished.

  16. The best case scenario for this session is gridlock on every issue besides the budget. Maybe after the election people will be in a better frame of mind to govern thoughtfully.

Unfortunately, baseball won’t be joining those two this year, most likely.
