Not Illinois specific, but it’s depressing to read about the Supreme Court ruling in favor of limiting representation of Black people in Alabama. Even Roberts voted against the ruling, and he’s been opposed to voting rights for his entire career. A sad day for democracy.

I don’t want to alarm anybody, but there’s a big, bright light in the sky today.
I’ve heard tell of something called “the sun”; I think it might be that…

“limiting representation of Black people in Alabama”
I feel the same way about Hispanics in Illinois.

‘Riffie & RichieRich SOS candidate did a spin with Tom Miller this a.m. Mercifully,no tough questions, claims never met ‘Riffie and want more driver services offices.

… and yet that map was deemed acceptable by a judge, and every Latino legislator voted for it too.
Were the legislators wrong too?

“and every Latino legislator voted for it too.”
Just because they accepted it, doesn’t mean it was fair. Even under the new map they will be underrepresented by Illinois congressional seats, in addition to being the fasting growing population segment in the state.

===Just because they accepted it===
They know better than you?
The map deemed acceptable to the VRA, and you know better?
Why didn’t a single Latino legislator vote against the map?
Your beef is with… who exactly?
This isn’t like Alabama where those maps faced opposition within that playing field
I know, I know… it’s probably like the Scopes trial or Brown v. Board of Education…

re Hispanics in Illinois, look at Chicago. Black population decreases, Hispanic increases to largest minority population in the city, mad fight for Black alders to keep wards.
Comment by Amalia Tuesday, Feb 8, 22 @ 9:41 am
Doesn’t everyone in WI already own a Rodgers jersey?

Poor leadership within the caucus that decided they would take what was offered rather than fight for what statically would have been fair.
For some reason, the community, via their leadership, views themselves as third rate citizens. Having worked in the community for more than a decade, it’s frustrating.

@Jose, don’t ruin my fun. 😜

The “thing” is, looking at the Chicago ward map fight currently going on, if statistically speaking the trend continues, odds are those districts could flip as time takes on those numbers.
Like a Danny Burke situation, which is an example that demographics sometimes lead to changes… “because math”

Very quiet on here today about the TRO…

===Very quiet===
What about it? That was yesterday.
Something comes up or changes, I’m sure there will be discussions… what were your expectations, insane blathering about freedom, ‘Merica, false information about a global virus… this isn’t Facebook…

I did. Thanks.
Downtown was barely plowed, tough walking or parking (went to parking garages fairly quickly).
Even had some Emo’s Pizza. Quick trip.
Quarantine time.

===Quarantine time. ===
Here in Illinois there’s some doubt to what that even means anymore. Glad you had a safe trip.
Comment by Candy Dogood Tuesday, Feb 8, 22 @ 11:56 am
First, thanks.
===…there’s some doubt to what that even means anymore===
I’ve been traveling throughout the pandemic, especially to the “southeast”, been doing the 5 day quarantine, then testing at day 3 and day 5.
It’s like a routine now.
