Got on the highway headed towards the city this morning for the first time in awhile and got to my destination 30 minutes earlier than I expected. Is “rush hour” a myth now? I wonder how many of the horizontal projects from the pre-pandemic capital bill are actually necessary now. Remote work could be a big win in the greens vs road builders war.

Just saw my first Irvin ad while watching luge (we did not place for a medal)
It notes how he ‘called in the guard’ which I think is a prerogative of… the Governor? A bit odd but not a terrible ad if you don’t think about it and go “oh yeah so he’s anti-riot/crime, neat”

=if you don’t think about it=
Isn’t that what the ILGOP is counting on? Not thinking. Nobody was/ pro riot/crime unless I have missed something.
The ILGOP candidates don’t seem to do a lot of thinking either, can’t answer even yes/no questions anymore.

I don’t think things will go well for the GOP, at least in Illinois, if their go to strategy is to end interviews when they don’t like the questions. So far we’ve seen meltdowns over insurrections, abortion, and vaccines. And those aren’t exactly inconsequential topics.
At least Mitch McConnell recognizes what the party fails to grasp. While they might collective feel that they need to move on from 1/6, that will likely only happen through honesty not recasting history. And keep in mind we haven’t even reached the stage yet of public hearings.

Bradley over Loyola. Go Braves
Going to miss seeing Loyola in the Valley. Had old friends from Loyola and Bradley get together for the games. It was getting to be a regular thing to do.
Best of Luck to the Ramblers in their new league.
Looking forward to reconnecting with old friends from UIC as they join the Missouri Valley next year.

I see nothing but Irwin ads when watching YouTube. Doesn’t matter what video. YouTube must know I’m from Illinois. Hmmmm…

I have to check the original capitol bill to see if it was included but I will keep saying that South Macarthur needs to have its extension finally finished from 72 south to the Woodside and Iron Bridge intersection. With a new railroad overpass in this area. This should have started 11 years ago after the current Macarthur extension was opened.

All I see are JB ads, can’t skip them either. When JB ran the first time my kids saw enough JB ads on youtube that ‘Hey JB’ became kind of a running joke in the house.

Anything yet about the Senate extending the committee deadline?

Is Irwin the Aurora guy? I see those ads when watching Jeopardy. My only thought about the ad is he’s lying about calling out the Guard, mayors can’t do that.

My wife and I are in Springfield today. Where should we eat a late lunch/early dinner to get “the historic flavor of Springfield?”
Comment by H-W Thursday, Feb 10, 22 @ 11:04 am
Meanwhile, as we try to return to a so-called “normal” and the easing of mask mandates, the immunocompromised people (most likely me among them) have tended to be overlooked. Daily Herald link:

More justification for why I refuse to return to “normal” and have resolved to avoid immense crowds and events (State Fair included) permanently.

The “historic Flavor of Springfield” is the Horseshoe. It was invented here. https://visitspringfieldillinois.com/Landing/SignatureHorseshoe.aspx
IMHO, the best place to get a horseshoe is Darcy’s Pint.

@H-W Depending on what you like, there’s a few good options. The Chili Parlor/Dew Chili is a good choice. Obed and Issac’s has a great horseshoe and decor. Or, you can just get a Cozy Dog if you like corn dogs. Enjoy.

I hear you NonAFCSMEStateEmployeeFromChatham. It was an anime convention that led to one of the first Omicron outbreaks in the US.
My BIL is in the ICU in Iowa right now as a result of COVID. He may not make it. Yes he had health complications before but he was living with them. He didn’t get vaxed because he believed lies. I’m mad at all the liars whether they are foreign meddlers, homegrown loons or whatever. If we could have a virus that just killed Antivax Inc I’d be for that. But not one that kills the simple fools that believed them.

1. Bears. Haven’t they run out of coaches to hire yet?
2. Driving. Did JB sign a bill repealing the Illinois Vehicle Code? I continue to be amazed at the terrible driving I’m seeing anymore.
3. Snow. If you are physically able, please try to keep fire hydrants dug out. Not every town goes around doing it, and finding and hooking up to a hydrant in drifts or piles takes valuable time.
