Just another boring week in Illinois politics and government. Big yawner of a week.

Is that Durkin calling the state Ellinoy and this being the darkest day in the state’s history? Because it’s Illinois,not Ellinoy,and Bruce Rauner did a lot more damage than Madigan in a lot less time in office.

=and Bruce Rauner did a lot more damage than Madigan in a lot less time in office.=
today really isn’t the day to be making that argument. Madigan’s corruption is completely unquantifiable when it comes to how much damage did he actually cause the state. and that isn’t a good thing, or something to be proud of. Madigan Enterprises chose winners and losers at a large scale, and that is not how government should operate.
sincerely, today is not the day to talk about Rauner, focus on your own house. Because frankly, its on fire, and will be for the next year.

I know the MJM news is the main thing today but this park district lawyer’s lawsuit against Lori Lightfoot is bananas.

March 2 should now be a state Holiday called Indictment Day in Illinois. All the elected officials could spend that day every year telling how they knew he was guilty for 40 years but did nothing about it.
I never thought it would happen.
Comment by Bruce( no not him) Thursday, Mar 3, 22 @ 8:49 am
Of the 19, most came to their realization very late. Earlier than many others but still late. How many of the 19 did not take at least hundreds of thousand of dollars from MJM controlled committees? Stava and probably Cassidy, Gabel, Guzzardi, Croke, Morgan and Williams. But even of that smaller group, how many voted for him for Speaker before? I think even Stava did. They get credit for being earlier than so many others, but they also bear some blame.

How many governors have gone to jail? This state has had a lot of dark days.
Comment by The Velvet Frog Thursday, Mar 3, 22 @ 8:49 am
Just think, if Danny Solis didn’t need help in the manhood thing none of this would’ve happened.
Comment by Frumpy White Guy Thursday, Mar 3, 22 @ 8:53 am
===Bruce Rauner did a lot more damage===
Damage or not, Rauner wasn’t indicted, Rauner faces no criminal charges for corruption.
The Floridian Bruce Rauner’s only fault is thinking he took out Madigan, when it was “The 19”… one voice, nineteen likely different reasons and end goals.
Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Mar 3, 22 @ 8:53 am
The Dems all point to how they have moved on from the corrupt practices of the past, yet MJM remains the state central committeeman from the 3rd Congressional District.

It’s comical around here. The ever growing list of democrat politicians indicted in Illinois and all you can say is Rauner. I’m sure it’s Trumps fault too. Why is it democrats refuse to admit how corrupt their party is? Democrats waited for 40 years to finally call for Madigan to go. Forty years of driving this state into a hole it will never get out of. Spare me the “balanced budget” claims too. That’s a complete farce and you all know it.

Who else is on that list besides Madigan? Who we’ve known about for over a year.
No question there have been corrupt politicians in this state but there have been plenty in both parties.

Ever heard of Rutan v. Republican Party of Illinois? George Ryan? Bill Cellini? “Corruption” is a bi-partisan plague that infects all of Illinois, not just one party / geographic area.

Think on this… just think on this…
In 1995 the GOP in Illinois… all the statewide offices, controlled both chambers of the GA…
===Democrats waited for 40 years===
Gotta be honest with you, ‘tween us, the failures of the GOP from the high water mark of 1995 include not being able to win elections and be a partner in governing where it matters.
You wanna blame “Democrats”, and sure, that the mouth breathing silly that makes me laugh… because even in She-Caw-Go and “Democrat City” angst… the Chicago GOP endorsed a Democrat, and couldn’t find a person that one would easily identify as a Republican.
Maybe, and I’m just spitballing, maybe you should be so angry that you can’t see straight because the GOP can’t defeat Dems, as you see it who “over 40 years”… or whatever the FoxNews-like, Facebook trending, talking point make you happy… are still likely controlling a good amount of Illinois government.
Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Mar 3, 22 @ 9:19 am
Pond Hockey, let me ask you this. Who brought the articles of impeachment against Blago? Who decided they would no longer support MJM and illustrated he didn’t have the votes of support among his chamber’s caucus members?
It was Democrats. Let me know when any of the profiles in courage in the Illinois GOP other than Kinzinger stand up to the former President and his cult members.
Spare us the moral indication.

The part about “can’t defeat Dem’s” was true and still may be true, but the slow-motion train wreck of MJM’s indictment and trial sure ain’t good for the brand. Need to do a battlefield damage assessment in 2022 and future elctions.
Comment by Donnie Elgin Thursday, Mar 3, 22 @ 9:28 am
Pond Hockey- How bad is the ILGOP when they are not even remotely competitive against the corrupt democratic party? I mean they have to be pretty bad. Amiright?
As bad as the democrats are, the vast majority of Illinois still thinks they are better than the ILGOP.
Maybe start there, get something together that can win beside “Illinois Bad”.
Comment by JS Mill Thursday, Mar 3, 22 @ 9:38 am

===…damage assessment in 2022 and future elections.===
Wholly agree, but be careful too - Donnie Elgin - to this;
While Durkin could, and likely with midterms, pick up seats and have replaced members for Bourne, Demmer, et al, the worry becomes…
Does Durkin face a coup from “Eastern Bloc” blokes derailing any chance of growth and expansion… and keeping ground instead of losing ground for more purity.
That assessment will begin with Durkin’s own status.
Be well, bud.
Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Mar 3, 22 @ 9:43 am
How’s it going? MJM goes down, LL continues to lead by example, coming out of covid into ww3 and petitions are soon due to be filed, Laugh/cry, cry/laugh, repeat.
Comment by Rutro Thursday, Mar 3, 22 @ 9:47 am
==sure ain’t good for the brand==
So was January 6 good for the GOP brand? Or the investigations against Trump getting closer and closer to criminal charges? Or party members speaking at white supremacist gatherings? Book banning, other extremist and authoritarian actions?
When a democrat is corrupt I see other democrats calling for them to go. On the other side I see defending corrupt behavior and making excuses.
No question Pritzker could be beat by a good candidate, and I’d argue beat easily. Is there a good GOP candidate for Governor (and other statewide offices) or is it a clown show? We’ll see what happens in the 2022 elections here in the state.

Going pretty well, thankfully, especially seeing what’s happening elsewhere.
Mayor Lightfoot allegedly had an interesting choice of words to use when she disagreed with a CPD attorney over the Columbus statue, reminiscent of what Da Mare would have said or thought. What she allegedly said was very “Chicago,” in the Royko-era sense.

===- Michael Madigan - Thursday, Mar 3, 22 @ 9:58 am:

A lot of people had bad mornings when they worked under Madigan in state agencies and even elected offices not under the governor. His arrogant, self-absorbed culture radiated everywhere in state government and was intimidating and even worse back in the 70’s than later in his career. (Yeh, I worked in state government 37 years - all Madigan years).
MM is the perfect example of ‘absolute power corrupts absolutely’.

Same with Blago too (although it didn’t help much as Emil was Blago’s enabler in the Senate for basically all but his first year as Gov to some extent).

So I just read that “Moody’s Investors Service dropped its long-term debt rating for the Russian government from Baa3 to B3,” (junk).
My question is why, before our latest credit upgrade this past summer, Moody’s rated Illinois and Russia the same. Rating failure.
Comment by Jibba Thursday, Mar 3, 22 @ 8:53 pm
Because Illinois should be rated higher than Russia, or lower?
