Gary Hall: I’ve lived here almost all my life, and as long as I can remember, the Murray Baker Bridge has been jammed with traffic. And you heard all the time how it was unsafe.
Everybody talks about fixing our roads. But JB Pritzker, he’s making it happen. He helped rebuild the bridge and completed it on time and on budget. And JB’s plan will fix hundreds more across downstate.
My dad always said, “Chicago gets the meat, we get the leftovers.” But JB, he’s working for all of us.

Chillicothe has a 100+ year old double viaduct on Route 29 that is the only route that can handle commercial traffic on the north side of the city. The Governor refuses to hear our case, which we have been pleading for 12 years.

As a Peoria-area resident, this is one of the best political ads I think I’ve ever seen. It’s a solid A. The “local guy” angle always gets me. It is always better to have a person talk about a politician than the politician talking himself.

GMK, I drove on Route 54 on my way home from my uncle’s house yesterday. South of Farmers City to several miles south of Clinton was just brutal. I was on the phone with a Pritzker person when I hit the worst of it. She got an earful lol
Yes, my car’s suspension was somehow set to “Sport” instead of “Comfort,” but still…

Give it an “A”. This ad is actually appealing to voters beyond the base. I think it does a nice job of showing rural Illinois that Pritzker has ignored the negativity and tried to work for everyone.

==Chillicothe has a 100+ year old double viaduct on Route 29 that is the only route that can handle commercial traffic on the north side of the city.==
All the more reason that Interstate 180 needs to finally get extended from just west of Hennepin to meet up with the northwest Peoria Route 6 bypass.
And also for Chillicothe, this should be a no brainer but IDOT needs to takeover Peoria County Route D19 from south of Edelstein to Chillicothe and make that an extension of Illinois Route 90 from the Princeville and Laura areas.

Call me a hillbilly, but I’ve never heard of the Murray Baker Bridge. Other than that, not bad so a B grade.
Comment by Furtive Look Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 9:01 am
Another solid B. The “Chicago gets the meat, we get the leftovers” line is another example of Pritzker marching into his opponents’ end of the field.

City person here. I don’t know where this is either and I don’t even own a car. Yet even I know fixing bridges is crucial to the people using these roads and indirectly benefits me in ways I’ll never know.
Comment by Cheryl44 Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 9:12 am
I also give it an A. As JS Mill said above, this reaches beyond the base.
The guy speaking is very good, but the idea that JB cares about the area and is actually doing things make it particularly effective.

Good Ad.
Comment by The Hills 60010 Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 9:19 am
@Arsenal Yup. Great comment. While the GOP is arguing with and about Coach Griffin, JB’s team is going to be running up the score.

Pritzker’s been in office 12 years?

Solid A.
A lot of issues can get confusing amid the back and forth political chatter. This is an issue that people can see everyday as they drive around their communities. I disagree with the Gov on many of his policies, but the capital plan was a long overdue investment.
Comment by SuburbanRepublican Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 9:35 am
Now I want him to do an ad about all the school construction in my neck of the woods.

Pritzker’s been in office 12 years? No but for last three we have written, called and emailed him and staff, no response. Rauner at least referred us to right IDOT folks to. Get 85% of the design/engineering work done.
Comment by GMK Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 9:47 am
A+. It is authentic to the region it is most aimed to reach, & has even greater appeal across the state. Also the guy in the ad is so truly real and feels relatable to JB.
Comment by Amalia Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 9:51 am
JBs ad team should get away from the obviously canned lines from real people. It’s cringe.
You feed them the talking points and keep interviewing them until you get what you need.
Comment by Hahaha Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 10:42 am
The gentleman in the Ad really does a good job. He comes across as honest and truthful.
I would give the Ad a B.

===the obviously canned lines===
“Sure, Jan”… someone who sees how important a bridge is and it’s fixing is… good? Huh.
To the ad?
It’s an “A”
It’s *exactly* what an incumbent that has real tangible accomplishments should do in ads… show how voters, and all Illinoisans in this case, are better because this was accomplished.
This is textbook. It’s as simply perfect to its execution as it could be.
It’s an “A”

==Call me a hillbilly, but I’ve never heard of the Murray Baker Bridge.==
It’s the official name for Peoria’s Interstate 74 bridge over the Illinois River.
Despite this ad, in my opinion the Murray Baker project was incomplete. The bridge should have either been completely replaced with one with at least 3 lanes per direction, or widened to add at least one additional lane per direction. Can get like a mini Poplar Street Bridge during rush hour.

Generally speaking, “cringe” is super effective politics. Most people don’t approach life the way the Twitteratti do.
Comment by Arsenal Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 10:55 am
Definitely rated an “A”. Speaks of communities and the people that live in them. JB does care and when residents say that it speaks volumes.
Comment by Mister Ed Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 11:07 am
I am from Peoria and I approve this ad.
All kidding aside, it’s excellent (A); the fellow in the ad could be one of my high school classmates, or a cousin or cousin’s husband. Genuine CI.
Comment by dbk Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 11:10 am
Good solid Ad. Is this running statewide? Haven’t seen it in my area yet.
Comment by Louis G Atsaves Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 12:15 pm
@Ducky LaMoore To your point I am hoping the JB does more ads featuring regular men and women because honestly the crazies never get any of the content from a JB ad featuring JB. They focus on his weight.
Comment by SouthSideGT Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 12:25 pm
Hmmm, jammed with traffic and unsafe. Not sure i agree and how did a new deck improve that? Nice backdrop thou.

Wasn’t this bridge project planned long before JB was Gov?

Message is simple, concrete, and credible. I give it an A.

Solid accomplishment. To me, infrastructure is like an offensive line. It’s crucial but nobody seems to notice unless it’s messed up.
