The 5th is going to be interesting to watch, on both sides of the gender aisle.
All of this competition for what used to be completely obscure party offices is another testament to the fact that we are living in a post-Madigan world.

Understatement of the year
Comment by Donnie Elgin Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 2:09 pm
I don’t understand why anyone would want to associate themselves with this dumpster fire.

Why? Three important meetings a year, and an invite to the Convention? Participation trophy?

some of those without an opponent are crossing fingers that it stays that way.

Why be so cynical? I have seen several candidates speak and they are interested in the direction of the party and ensuring that local voices are heard and concerns addressed.
It’s a new day. Madigan ran DPI as an arm of the House Dem organization; the potential is to help a much wider variety of candidates and provide support to folks at the county and precinct level.

I think it only takes 67 signatures. It might be different in each district but not many and you can knock them out in an afternoon and have a whole week to do it. So there definitely could be more interested after seeing who they are up against.

10th is going to be fascinating.

One wonders if Rush is running again as a way of forcing Sims & Evans to stand down on their growing feud?
Comment by SpiDem Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 3:08 pm
and in 5, Santos?
Comment by Amalia Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 3:27 pm
Santos is ineligible to run due to her appointment to the Pollution Control Board.

Not going to happen with supposedly elected party leads with their already Goliath like name recognition, access to deeeeep coffers of cash, promises and goading from party donor class, and already on the ballot loyalty from their constituencies.
The goal, no more of this grassroots organization nonsense. Y’all, gone and git back in line and do as you are told.

How has no one in the comments mentioned Poshard running in 12?! That’s hype!
Comment by Lake villa township Monday, Mar 7, 22 @ 6:56 pm
Good to see former US Rep. Glenn Poshard back in the game.

===Why be so cynical?===
I am often a cynic, but lets not spend too much time pretending that the manner in which the state central committees in Illinois are decided and who serves on them encourages or permits grass roots involvement within the party. They DPI does not hold conventions and does not produce or publish a party platform.
===the potential is to help a much wider variety of candidates and provide support===
The amount of support that can be provided is limited by the size of the organization and it’s lack of outreach directly to voters and activists or volunteers. The “variety” of people in the pool of possible candidates is significantly limited by the size of the committee and the lack of traditional party structures and events, like conventions and platform committees.
The structure of the DPI resembles the structure of an organization that was designed and intended to be ineffective at anything other than reducing Mike Madigan’s bulk mail costs.
