  1. Had it not been for COVID today would have been Primary Day.

    Your thoughts about Covid is noted, but it was likely more about the census, maps, and timelines.

    Which were largely delayed due to COVID…

  7. The sabotage of the census was aided by Covid, the sabotage was coming all the same.

  9. If I wanted traffic density and too many neighbors, I would live in Lincoln park…probably in a garage, but I like being able to park in front of my own house. You ought to be able to live in a neighborhood like that in Chicago, but there’s a constant barrage of developers trying to build too many apartments in new buildings with WAY too few parking places being required in those buildings turning the streets into a version of the hunger games when both driving and trying to find a parking place. Just thought I’d get that off my chest. Now back to your regular programming.

  10. I was thinking this morning while dropping my kid off at school, been nice couple weeks not seeing/hearing parents yelling about masks.

  11. Mark Maxwell’s interview of Jesse Sullivan outside of the SBOE office is epic. His timing and patience as Sullivan flounders is a masterclass in political reporting.

    My building was built roughly 1930, there’s about 30 apartments (condos now) and no off street parking. This is hardly new.

    Comment by Cheryl44 Tuesday, Mar 15, 22 @ 8:35 am

  14. ===This is hardly new. ===

    Correct, and it’s the city. Less need for cars, and a higher incentive to limit autos.

    Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Mar 15, 22 @ 8:36 am

  15. === …higher incentive to limit autos. ===

    And there are plenty of neighborhoods in the city where you’re forced to limit autos…since there’s no parking. I live in one of the few neighborhoods where it isn’t as dense. I want to try as best I can, to keep it that way, so that I’m not as dependent on the wonderfully efficient, clean, safe cta.

  17. Can someone explain gas price fluctuations in Illinois to me?

    Why is gas in Pontiac like 40-50 cents cheaper than other Illinois towns and cities?

    And how in the world is gas in Chicago roughly the same price or sometimes cheaper than that of Bloomington-Normal/Decatur/Champaign-Urbana/Peoria right now?

    Can there be any explanation for this than price gouging and collusion?

    Don’t forget Springfield, it seems like they have the most expensive gas in central Illinois most of the time.

  19. ==Can someone explain gas price fluctuations in Illinois to me?==

    Several factors are involved. Local taxes, not only on the gas but also the real estate tax and business licenses taxes on the gas station itself.

    Comment by DuPage Tuesday, Mar 15, 22 @ 1:32 pm

  20. ===real estate tax and business licenses taxes===

    (Sigh)

    Those are local issues so if one decides that those taxes are real big reasons for differences, than I look forward to ridiculous stickers of townships trustees on gas pumps next, or township assessors…

    Gas prices vary even within Chicago. I see significant differences depending on where in the city I am. It’s 20¢ cheaper if I go just west of King Drive,for example, but 20¢ more if I stay east but go 2 miles south.
