Nice weather (banned punctuation). Kids are excited because they get to start eating lunch outdoors again, which still feels to them like they’re getting away with something at school. Up with picnics.

That’s just, like, your opinion man.

Still cant believe SHG won the 3A basketball championship or that they played Ignatius in a semi final game. Lots of ties between the two schools. Never thought I’d see Ignatius go downstate either.

Can Kofi and Illini get past Arizona?

It’s your humility that I find captivating.

It’s a wonderful sunny day here in beautiful DuPage County. Looks like it’s ok to put the snow shovel away for the year.
Wondering why the Fighting Illini are so darned inconsistent. A month ago they seemed likely to be a 1 or 2 seed, now they are down to 4. They looked terrible against Indiana on Friday. Fingers crossed they can win a couple of games in the tournament.

As an Ignatius grad I was pretty shocked to see them go downstate too. My daughter was there and said the best team won. Congrats to them hopefully there is a rematch next year. High level high school ball is the best. IHSA does a good job with that tourney very exciting.

@suburbanon, I’m hoping we can get past Chattanooga.
You never know with this Jekyll and Hyde team.

Many spirits are lifted so much when spring weather arrives, like it has here. It’s great to just be outside.

I’m legitimately confused every time I see adults talk about high school sports unless they are the parents of kids on the teams.

Don’t do that [banned punctuation]. You’ll jinx things. We had a blizzard in April, 1975.

Looks like I need to take down our outdoor Christmas lights today. Snow, ice and mud have been legit excuses up till now.

And why folks like me like the St. Louis Cardinals when I live in Illinois and have absolutely no connection whatsoever to that city, team, or people connected to any of it.

Homebody - you should jump on the high school sports bandwagon. Some great great games involving mostly players who will not be playing in college (never mind the pros). In some places, like my house, it’s a religion. SHG and Glenbard West were just terrific teams to watch this year.

I understand downstate Cardinal fans. It’s the closest team. You’re far more likely to actually go to a game.

With respect, I’m from a small town in central Illinois. HS school football and basketball games can be bigger events than college/pro games. We’re supporting our neighbors kids, kids of people we went to high school with, kids of our relatives. Plus, there’s a hometown pride, especially when we play our nearby rivals. I don’t live in my small town anymore, but I still follow my HS sports teams.

We kind of treat St. Louis as an honorary Illinois city, at least downstate.

Springfield got 18 inches of snow on Mar. 24, 2013 (Palm Sunday that year). When “only” 8-9 inches were predicted.
Also, on Easter Sunday 2018 (Apr. 1, 2018), a narrow area between Peoria and Springfield got fairly sizable snow, including almost a foot of snow near Lincoln.

And need I say more on this, but later this month will be the 44th anniversary of the Easter 1978 central Illinois ice storm (Mar. 24-26, 1978). Many areas in Springfield and surrounding areas, among others, didn’t have power for several weeks after the storm.

Parts of western and central Illinois had a 12ish-inch dump of snow (especially around Peoria and Galesburg) on Apr. 10, 1997. However, little or snow fell in this storm south of Lincoln.

I’m not sure I remember the 2013 storm, but I definitely remember 2018.
I had an Easter outfit with a really cute sleeveless blouse, and some adorable sandals.
When the forecast took a turn for the worst Saturday night, I had to race out to Walmart to find a cheap schmatte to replace my original outfit.
I have a suspicion I wasn’t the only woman at Walmart with that mission.
I bought a long-sleeved blouse for $5 or $7, and wore the cute outfit for Easter 2019, when the weather was better.
I believe Champaign-Urbana got 3 or 4 inches out of that storm.
