Irvin campaign blames Pritzker for three shot cops

Posted in:

* Irvin campaign…

After a third police officer was shot in less than a week, the trend of heightened violence and brazen disregard for police shows just how empowered criminals really are in J.B. Pritzker’s Illinois. Yesterday’s shooting comes just days after another officer was shot in the same neighborhood and a U.S. Marshal and his K-9 dog were shot while serving an arrest warrant.

During a press conference Sunday, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown noted a 500 percent increase in offenders shooting at Chicago police officers over the last two-and-a-half years.

A total of five people were killed and 28 people, including the police officer, a two-year-old and a six-year-old, were wounded by shootings across Chicago this weekend. These alarming statistics come after the most violent Memorial Day weekend in the last five years rocked Chicago: nine people were killed and 42 others wounded in the city.

“Criminals are emboldened to the point that they fear no consequences for their actions, even if it comes to shooting police officers,” said Eleni Demertzis, Irvin for Illinois spokesperson. “Unlike the current governor’s weak leadership, Richard Irvin has stood up for and stood with our police, and that is why he has earned their overwhelming support. Our men and women who wear the badge are critical in getting us out of this public safety crisis in Illinois, and Irvin is the best choice to lead them in this dangerous and difficult pursuit.”

  1. Richard Irvin supports cops by saying their written police reports are false.

  2. If this violence shows anything, it’s that Republicans like Irvin need to grow a backbone on gun safety. Where is Irvin on illegal guns flooding into Chicago from Indiana? Is Irvin willing to sit down with Governors of states with lax laws like Iowa and Indiana? Is Irvin willing to speak out on banning AR 15s that endanger the lives of police officers?

  3. Irvin is running for the wrong office. Still.

  4. I imagine Richard Irvin supports cops who refuse to get vaccinated against or tested for COVID-19, as well. Now to take a big sip of my morning coffee and look up the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths for police officers over the last two years.

  5. “Where is Irvin on illegal guns flooding into Chicago from Indiana?”

He supports it, apparently, repeatedly not begrudging Griffin for not only being invested in guns, but substantially increasing investments.

Does Irvin think violent criminals will fear someone who can’t answer a simple yes or no question on whether he voted for Trump, and won’t give an answer on abortion?

  10. The reality is Richard Irvin is using crime and cops as a political gimmick to get in office. His true agenda has nothing to do with crime.

“Shortly before becoming mayor of Aurora in 2017 and stepping away from his law practice, for example, he represented a man accused of attacking a police officer. He’s also represented clients accused of kidnapping, domestic violence and sexual assault.”

What policy could be adopted by the state or city to curb gun violence in Chicago?

Comment by Needs Deleted Monday, Jun 6, 22 @ 11:11 am

  13. What are Ken Griffin’s gun profits looking like lately? Seems like there are a lot of gun crimes taking place which means lots of guns and ammo being sold, all good things for Griffin’s pocketbook. Irvin ready to return all that dough from the guy who profits off the tools of the crime he decries so often?

  14. Ugly, vitriolic and phony rhetoric is standard for the GOP. Irvin has learned his GOP slime lessons well.

  15. Republicans turn a blind eye to guns and any possible gun control and then blame Democrats for criminals from using guns.

    Ok.

Unfortunately that logic or lack of it seems to work for a portion of people.

  16. I don’t see how the Governor’s office has anything to do with CPD, the State’s Attorney’s Office, etc. This just seems like a callous shot to gain political points off an officer being shot in the line of duty.

  18. “You write up a report every time you make a arrest, isn’t that so? And those reports are complete, accurate, and truthful? And they are complete, accurate, and truthful because you need to rely on them later, and right? But in your testimony today you mentioned some things you didn’t include in your report, didn’t you?” -every single defense attorney every single time they cross examine a cop

  19. “Criminals are emboldened to the point that they fear no consequences for their actions, even if it comes to shooting police officers,” said Eleni Demertzis.

This is simply not true. Are bad people emboldened? Yes. But not because they fear prison or consequences. They are emboldened because they simply don’t care for another human’s life. It’s that simple. Zero respect in their lives.

  20. ==shows just how empowered criminals really are in J.B. Pritzker’s Illinois.==

Right. I am sure criminologists have found that criminals study governors, and wait until they have the right governor before they start shooting.

This is just plain “Tom-Foolery.” Governor’s may own some things, but criminals do not follow politics when deciding whether or not to own guns or use guns. They do not follow politics when deciding whether or not to resist arrest.

The billboard is in central DuPage County.

  25. Maybe if the US, especially Chicago, had fewer guns then fewer cops would be shot.

Comment by Curious citizen Monday, Jun 6, 22 @ 11:40 am

  26. Irvin might have less help from the cops than he thinks. If it’s a tight race with low turnout, he’ll need every vote from the city he can get. But the FOP is gonna be trying to get a good number of members to take D ballots against Martwick. Could be a decent number of lost Irvin votes in that crowd.

Don’t blame the party in charge of all three branches of government, both US Senators, and 23 of 36 members of the House for the deaths of 19 children in Texas.

OK. Violent crime is on the rise across America and inflation is increasing around the world.

Sorry LP, but the Illinois Democrats just aren’t as powerful as you make them out to be.

  33. Hey Lucky,

Who’s in charge of Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas and all the other states in the country that had record shooting #s in 2021? Did Pritzker do that too? What a silly argument for a silly person.

And regarding inflation, Who’s in charge of Poland? Who’s in charge of the UK? Their inflation rates are even higher than in the US.

  35. AlfondoGonz - Always thought the best police report from the arresting officer would be: “Observed offender, arrested same.” No impeachment there. Also heard of an officer who responded to the question of why he wrote reports: “To let my sergeant know I’m working.” Those might give defense attorney Irvin pause.

  38. It’s not hard to figure out. You have 150,000+ gang members in Chicago. What is hard to figure out is what’s always been hard to figure out - how to address the fact that there are 150,000+ gang members in Chicago. And some (not all, and not most, but definitely some) of these folks are bad actors that are not going to care who the Governor is. Who the District Attorney is. Who the Mayor is. Who the President is. They care about three things - money, power and perceived respect. I’ve done enough volunteer work with groups like CeaseFire and talked with enough men (and women) who have told me just that to believe it’s not random lip service. Unfortunately for us as the electorate, lip service is exactly what we get from a lot of our elected officials when it comes to figuring out how to address both gun violence and the root causes of it.
