Gov. Pritzker: Act Now to Ensure Equal Access to Abortion
Roe v. Wade is on the cusp of being overturned. If that happens, every state surrounding Illinois will either quickly ban or severely restrict abortion access. In the last few years, we’ve made a lot of progress protecting reproductive rights in Illinois. We’ve repealed dangerous abortion restrictions and passed the Reproductive Health Act (RHA), which enshrines reproductive rights as fundamental rights in Illinois.
However, rights are meaningless without the resources to access abortion!
Ask Gov. JB Pritzker make sure that Illinois guarantees equal access to abortion
Right now — in Illinois and most of our neighboring states — many people cannot access the abortion they need and deserve. Barriers include cost, distance, lack of child care, and no paid time off work. In states surrounding Illinois, patients must also navigate medically unnecessary waiting periods. This situation will only become more dire once Roe falls and millions of people find themselves in a vast abortion desert with Illinois serving as the health care oasis.
We need Gov. Pritzker’s leadership to ensure Illinois is the critical access state he promised it to be. Gov. Pritzker needs to cut the red tape that puts barriers between providers and patients. As New York, California, and Oregon have done, Illinois needs to step up with funding that will support providers, advocates, and patients.
Urge Gov. Pritzker to act now to ensure Illinois lives up to its promise to be a critical access state for abortion.
Together, we can make sure that everyone, no matter their zip code, income, or identity, can access abortion in Illinois.

Gov. Pritzker has spent his life fighting to protect and expand reproductive rights. As he has clearly said, Illinois will remain a free state where women can access the abortion care they need without unnecessary restrictions. He looks forward to working with advocates and the General Assembly to discuss additional steps to ensure reproductive rights are accessible and protected.

The Abyss is appropriately monikered. The frequency of abortion in Illinois would not be so frequent if it were not for the cruelty of other states towards women. Celebrating the agency of women, that’s it.

So they still aren’t wanting safe and legal?
Frequent and celebrated? That’s a big of a hyperbole, given that SCOTUS might strike down much if not all of Roe.

I’m okay with medicaid picking up the tab for the poor, but let’s make sure we’re not paying for any medical services for out-of-staters who can afford it or have insurance coverage.

Abyss, thanks for the drive by - The number of abortions performed in Illinois is lower than it was in 1995 when a republican was governor.

I dunno, “nonsense” might be a little strong. Mike Zalewski had a perfect record on abortion rights (including supporting state funding through Medicaid) and went the other way on PNA and is getting hit hard for it. Biden had to abandon a career-long stance against federal funding for abortion to avoid putting his nomination at risk. There’s definitely less tolerance for even a modicum of dissent on this issue. Of course, the same is true in the opposite direction on the GOP side.

I think Illinois has it just about right. No need for a change, which does not celebrate abortion but sanctifies a woman’s right to be in control of her person (agency).

That was the point, Montrose. Mr. Jayem suggested that the Democrats remain some sort of big tent party that would allow any representatives who are not 100% pro-choice. Lipinski got drummed out over the issues. Exactly one pro-life democrat remains in the U.S. House, and he barely won his primary race last week.

What it the world are you talking about?
I posted in response to the Abyss saying: “Gone are the days of pro choice Democrats.”
The clue that my response was to that nonsensical comment was the fact that I literally quoted that comment.
My comment was very short and unambiguous, and it didn’t “suggest” whatever it is you’re going on about.

Is ‘The Abyss’ a troll? I am a Democrat and most definitely pro-choice.
Do you know what it costs to give birth? Why would you FORCE a person to bear that expense and responsibility?? I’m also pro-vasectomy. That would cure the abortion dilemma.
Parenthood should be a choice.

Don’t count your chickens - with the economic situation deteriorating even JB Pritzker is going to be vulnerable in November.
He is a smart politician, and he isn’t going to be making definitive moves on abortion. Majority of folks will support multiple abortion options in the first trimester but his support of elective abortion up until the moment of birth is a bridge too far.
