On election day, Pritzker begins new TV ad campaign

Posted in:

* “Wasn’t Over”

Script

The day has come that we’ve always feared.

And across America, women are losing their right to make their own health care decisions.

But here in Illinois, JB Pritzker made sure we’re protected by signing a landmark abortion rights bill that made Illinois the only state in the Midwest to put those protections into law.

Because of JB, women will get the health care they need and the freedom to make their own decisions.

And that’s exactly what we deserve.

* “Launch”

Script

Some launches are more complicated than others.

But when Governor Pritzker launched the manufacturing and training academies downstate, the idea was pretty simple.

JB brought businesses and community colleges together to train the workforce that businesses need.

Now, thousands of downstate workers are getting good-paying jobs.

And companies are open for business across our state.

Supporting workers and growing the economy, it’s not rocket science.

JB is working for Illinois.

Rate ‘em.

  1. JB was criticized for being slow and too minimal with the Fair Tax campaign. You can’t say that about his reelection bid.

  2. A+ o both. Choice is on the ballot for Illinois goveror, and demonstrated success in job-training for downstate. A governor for all of Illinois.

  3. I give them an A.

    Positive, responsive.

Comment by JS Mill Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 9:12 am

  4. I’d rate them both an A. It’s never too early to start framing the issues and highlighting the positive advantages of the state and Pritzker’s tenure. These ads do that well.

Comment by Pundent Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 9:22 am

  5. JB always presents as reasoned, well spoken, amiable and knowledgeable. A for the ads.

Comment by SouthSideGT Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 9:33 am

  6. Both are good, simple ads, and they’re plays Pritzker can keep running up to Election Day. Bailey can’t claim that he’s done more to protect women’s rights or create jobs.

Comment by Arsenal Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 9:35 am

  7. Meh.

I don’t think abortion will be an issue come November.

    Nope.

    It’ll fade.

    It’ll be something like… crime.

    It’s an A-

This *will be* the biggest cutting of headwinds, abortion, for Dems. This ad makes sure voters know the score. Well done, too.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 9:36 am

  8. Launch is a B+… blocking and tackling.

Governors own. They always do, even the good.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 9:37 am

  9. I rarely give out As unless there is a wow factor but these are solid B+s. Enjoy your day Sen. Bailey because the road to November starts right now, and there’s plenty more to come that will be directed at you.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 9:39 am

  10. A+ for the choice piece. great diversity of women, clear message.
second one B just because I think the rocket science analogy undercuts the difficulty of what he did with the program. it is not rocket science but it is great and the comparison undercuts a great piece past the rocket part.

  11. Will neoliberal Democrats PLEASE stop campaigning on job training. “You aren’t smart enough or employable enough, but I will fix you! You’re welcome! Vote for me!” So belittling and patronizing.

    Comment by Rufus T. Firefly Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 9:55 am

  12. I put them at A. They are not the pointless ‘he/she is not one of us, really is a…, or a liar’ rants that seems to be every ad on TV. Seeing the same ads across the nation. Do not tell me about your oppenent. Tell me what you are and what you bring to the table. These ads do that.

Comment by zatoichi Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 10:18 am

  13. ==neoliberal==

A word that has lost all meaning.

JB’s campaigning on jobs. The manufacturing training academies- which are quite a bit different than the “learn to code” stuff or whatever- are just how he got the jobs.

Comment by Arsenal Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 10:18 am

  14. Rufus, Dems and Republicans campaign on job training because it consistently polls well. And with these programs helping people get solid, often times union jobs, it has the added benefit of being good policy. It’s not belittling when workers want these jobs, other people in society respect them, and they’re discussed as opportunities not “hey you’re dumb so get this menial job” as you’re implying.

To the post, both are A’s for me. They touch on two big concerns right now for voters — abortion and the economy/jobs — and do it in short, well argued ways.

Comment by Panther Pride Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 10:32 am

  15. Crime inflation high taxes lost corporations but JB sells Illinois as an abortion haven. Too bad there isn’t a good alternative because otherwise he would be in trouble

Comment by Sue Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 10:47 am

  16. Both A

Downstate jobs. Nicely undercuts Bailey’s supporters attitude of Chicago gets all the Bennies.

Comment by Langhorne Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 11:03 am

  17. ==Too bad there isn’t a good alternative because otherwise he would be in trouble==

Sheesh. Too bad I’m old, bald, and have a paunch or I could be an underwear model

Comment by don the legend Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 11:16 am

  18. ===Too bad there isn’t a good alternative because otherwise he would be in trouble===

Narrator: Pritzker continues to poll above water.

Since “retuning” from your self-imposed “I’m never commenting on Capitol Fax again” thingy… you’ve yet to fully grasp where your own “bubble” is not really meshing with polling or results.

I had hoped better with your “return”, but…

Oh… better… who exactly could be Pritzker, why didn’t they run here in this primary?

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 11:23 am

  19. =Too bad there isn’t a good alternative because otherwise he would be in trouble=

There are no less than 6 candidates vying for the GOP nod. How many candidates would it actually take for there to be a “good” alternative? Maybe JB is just better than anything the GOP has to offer? And the numbers suggest that he was in that position before the Supreme Court ruling.

Comment by Pundent Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 11:28 am

  20. ===There are no less than 6 candidates vying for the GOP nod.===

… and yet - Sue - points to a mythical unicorn of a candidate that can beat a well-funded incumbent governor… polling above water.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 11:31 am

  21. ==because otherwise he would be in trouble==

That’s why Republicans continue to be in the minority in Illinois. Because you still don’t understand that the electorate isn’t buying what you’re trying to sell.

Comment by Demoralized Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 11:31 am

  22. A. JB striking when the iron is hot on Roe. Keeping his powder dry on public safety until it’s top of mind again. Bailey was busy tooling around in his campaign bus while Pritzker signed major public safety leg, etc…

    Comment by Tim Butler's Well-Done Steak Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 11:42 am

  23. I wish we had a moratorium on campaign ads for at least two months after the primary. I actually kept the TV off last night and read Ray Long’s book for just a little peace and quiet.

Comment by Joe Schmoe Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 11:43 am

  24. “Too bad there isn’t a good alternative because otherwise he would be in trouble”

So if circumstances were otherwise, then things would be different?

You shouldn’t give political insight like that away for free.

  25. Oh, and they are solid ads. A-/B+.

But selfishly, I can’t wait for the anti-Bailey ads. Those are gonna be fun. So much fodder…and only four months.

Comment by New Day Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 2:45 pm

  26. “Too bad there isn’t a good alternative because otherwise he would be in trouble”
The good alternative is fighting to save democracy on the January 6th commission. But he knew he’d never make it through the madhouse GOP primary.

Comment by Proud Papa Bear Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 3:21 pm

  27. A+ for both for hitting two different audiences effectively. These ads look *normal* compared to what Darren Bailey will be blasting out.

Man oh man is Bailey going to get absolutely walloped by Gov. Pritzker.
