* Wow…
Ald. Ed Burke gets the opportunity to run for re-election while facing federal criminal charges *again.* https://t.co/PnVuw1Gify

Ed Burke was indicted in May of 2019. I know COVID and all, but 4 1/2 years from charges to trial is long even for a federal political corruption case. https://t.co/URb7njM7jP

It’s in his best interest to delay. Then if convicted he can say an 80-something-year-old-man should not be incarcerated or only for a few months.

If he would left when he was 72, coulda been a nice retirement.
On trial… and re-election at 80 seems like way too much for any person.
When it’s time to leave the stage…

I wonder what the next delay tactic from his legal team will be

Perhaps the deal is Missus “Took him for better or worse, but never said anything about lunch.” ?? /s

The Two Eddies from Chicago are still not behind bars. Waiting for a matching set of Vincent Gigante’s pajamas.

Burke looks quite dapper in his fancy fedora. Probably not running again with new 14th Ward boundaries. Perhaps he should run in the Madigan controlled 13th Ward.

It’s all the man knows or wants to know. He’ll run again in 2027 if he can.

oh Chicago, come on…..

Ed’s a long way from trial. There could be a change in defense counsel before November 2023.

That’s the most baffling part of this. He maxed out a long time ago on his pension. And may never collect a dime except for his contributions. Plus the supreme also will have a huge pension. Along with the fact he is probably very, very well off even without the pensions. But he still wanted more?

Not really. As Montrose said above, its all he’s ever known. He’d been in for over 50 years. Frankly I was suprised he didnt leave when he lost the Finance Committee chair. The fact he decided to stay even if just as a backbench alderman with no chairmanship told me everything i needed to know. He will have to be defeated or convicted to get him out…

I agree 100% with him wanting to stay as alderman because that’s all he knows. But to solicit a cheap bribe from a burger joint or even want more property tax business is the baffling part.

If John Chase has a problem with a man getting his rightful due process then either he should direct his ire at a justice department that wire tapped for ten years and owes him discovery, or he should move to Russia.

A side benefit of seniority-based clout. Even pre-COVID, the Grim Reaper or the ravages of age (cutting off competence to stand trial) get to you before prosecutors or the Bureau of Prisons.

At this point it’s not even about the money anymore - moreso the power/ego trip of still doing and getting away with it.

At a certain point, it’s more about the power and being a player than it is the money.

Would love to see him win again.

Look at it this way, in his mind - and also in reality in the City of Chicago and the City Council - he’s saying “I’m not the only one.”
