* I thought I’d finally finished up my dental work earlier this week, but something didn’t quite fit right and I’m in enough pain that I decided I need to get this fixed so I can work. I have a noon appointment, so I’ll try to be back when it’s over.

Be nice to each other, please.

…Adding… I’m back and feeling much better. Need to have some lunch because I haven’t been able to eat anything for a while. Gimme a few.

  2. Tooth pain is no fun, hope that gets fixed soon. I’m delaying treatment agaisnt the advice of my dentist because we live in a system where some idiot with a business degree can tell a doctor that they’re wrong about what treatment people need.

  3. Given the way things are going, what chance/odds would you give Bailey of winning in November? My guess is at best he’s got a 5% chance.

  4. - Real -

If your concern is about not getting to say all you feel need to be said, you can always start your own blog, comment on your posts, and not worry about deletions.

To be honest, comparing dental pain to the idea you think is a winning one only makes your takes seem… less.

  5. =Given the way things are going, what chance/odds would you give Bailey of winning in November?=

Elections are binary so he’s got a 50/50 chance. Having said that his chances don’t look good given his past history and how voters in Illinois have typically viewed candidates with his ideology. For contrast purposes the Trump/Clinton and Trump/Biden results are the best proxy we have. And they don’t look good for Bailey. If he outperforms some might consider that a “good” result, but not necessarily a win.

  8. Yesterday’s “Ribbon Cutting” item about Rend Lake, Eagle Creek was mentioned. Late Ryan a state agency with a dedicated fund tried to “re-purpose” Eagle Creek. Ryan’s people sat on their hands, Blagojevich’s did also … but his budget staff “looted” the dedicated fund. And the mold arrived.

I have 2 favorite memories of eating fresh from the garden, eating fresh picked watermelon, warm from the sun, with my grandfather. Dirt on the rind, juice running down our chins. Also eating fresh pulled radishes, gritty with dirt left over from the rubbing on pants leg.

Not in North Central IL. We haven’t had a drop this week, but are doing well for the season. Just 20 miles south of us, they had 6″+ of rain on Tuesday (banned punctuation mark).

I’ve not heard. Maybe he’s good with the gambling, given his various gun raffles. Cannabis? I dunno. Someone should press him on that, imho.

  19. Rain is been really spotty. Our garden has gotten dumped on once a week since April.

We are in Southern Sangamon County, our grass looks like Ireland and we struggle to get liquid fertilizer in our plants due to them constantly being wet.

A friend five miles away is begging for rain.

  20. We had a real uprising of suburban women against Trumpism in 2018, that carried the day in Illinois. Watching the movement in Kansas was heartening, but is there there even more room to grow women’s political power here? Well, the 18 to 25 year old women and allies are coming out big time right now, way beyond the 2018 experience.

I’m usually an “it’s the economy” kind of pol, but am getting very hopeful for suburban Dems.

  28. Not sure if Real is still following the thread or not, and their comments got deleted but I got the gist from the responses.

There are plenty of conservative republicans who post here without much of a problem. I’m glad they do because it’s nice to read and respond to people I disagree with. Real, you can read those folks comments and see how they differ from your stuff that gets moderated. Rich makes some judgement calls but they’re fairly predictable and consistent. They’re all about time, not position.

I’ve had a few comments moderated out since I started commenting, and I’ve done my best to learn from those and adjust. It’s not an attack on me or my positions. It’s the wrong punctuation, the wrong buzzword, the wrong tone. Like OW said, it’s not our blog. We’re guests here, so we should try to act like guests.

I really do want to see your contributions to the conversations, because a comment section that agrees on everything is pretty boring. But if you’re consistently running afoul of the moderation, you gotta adjust. The first time someone calls you a horse, you call him a knucklehead. The second time someone calls you a horse, you bop them on the nose. But the third time, well, then it might be time to start shopping for a saddle.

This was the laugh I needed.

Right now, I would guess Bailey has about a 30% chance of winning. It goes down everyday he speaks on the record or off.

This may be the first election that is won and the winner never actually has to speak, his opponents words do all that he needs.

What has been interesting, for me, is the continued interest in abortion as a national string of consciousness, and it has shown, in its first test, to resonate to voting and not just protesting.

Will it be strong enough to carry, not only in Illinois, but “everywhere”, that might be the watch, not the economy woes and that slide?

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Aug 4, 22 @ 11:43 am

  34. When Candidate Bailey loses the governor’s race, he’d be a perfect spokesperson for infomercials on late night television. Bailey is not at all adept at answering questions from the media so one-way conversations to his audience is a perfect match for his skill set.

Bailey could peddle vitamins, medical devices, and all sorts of products. A new career awaits…or a return to his position as State Senator.

===I’m delaying treatment agaisnt the advice of my dentist===

Be careful not to delay too long, problems can get much worse and more expensive the longer treatments are delayed. My dental bills were an arm and a leg, and my dentist will be paid the insurance from Delta about 77weeks late. The state payments for their portion fell way behind during the Rauner administration and has never caught up. It would be good if they put a line item in the budget to catch up, but I guess the state is busy with more urgent things.
I thought I saw a chart showing the state was only a week behind paying dental bills and told my dentist about it. He said was news to him, he will believe it when/if he actually gets paid.

No one wants the government in their bedroom.

They might argue for the government being in other people’s bedroom, but as soon as you broaden the conversation to include the government also interfering with the way they want to live their lives, support fades pretty quick.

  56. Regarding comments on this forum that seem to be moderated out, I will put in my two cents. I too have had some posts that seem to go through, yet never appear. At first I thought I had inadvertently said something offensive and that may well have been the case with some. However, one of my comments earlier this week, as an example, concerned the excessive rainfall in Jasper and Richland Counties, my wish for everyone to be safe from flooding, etc. Standard punctuation, nothing political, personal, or controversial that I could see. It seemed to go through as it took me back to the original thread page, yet the comment never showed even though others immediately before and after by others did. Others said about the same thing, so I just shrugged it off and went on. Other comments of mine showed up immediately. So, to the person claiming censorship, perhaps it was some kind of system glitch and not intentional. As others have noted, however, if your comment was deemed inappropriate in some way by Rich, then that is your problem. After all, it is his forum.

For quite a while, lots of folks would just leave brief comments like “OW +1″ or something like that. So, “+” now triggers moderation to cut down on the drive-by posts. And + was in your comment.

  59. ===Tyrant.===

Boo Hoo! I get comments “moderated” often, and it is always 1 of 3 reasons. 1, violate “Illinois specific” requirement (usually after some IPI type talks about converting State Pensions to a 401k, and I talk about other state’s experiences). 2, answers that are Ph.D. thesis length. 3, ranting and raving about how Illinois is still suffering from the tenure of Blago’s first budget director.

We are guests, Rich sets the rules. Don’t like, do your own blog.

It was originally explained to me as being .5% payroll deduction by college employees, matched by the college, and matched by the State. I don’t know for sure if that was correct or something changed or if it was not protected as part of the state pension. It is a thing I will look into another day.

That means if you get just one extra flare a week - just one - a gorp… you get a groundball, you get a *groundball with eyes*… you get a dying quail, just one more dying quail a week… and you’re in Yankee Stadium.”

I also have some comments that never showed up; some of which I believe are tech glitches, a few may have been auto-moderated or manually. FYIY Rich’s rules and policies are far more fair and reasonable than Yahoo’s current filtering attempts (as one example), which ban words other people used in their posts and require manual review in case of any link, emojies (which they have on their comment tool) and various “trigger” words they don’t like.
