* My uncle was in good spirits after his surgery yesterday. He’s looking at several weeks of recovery, but he’s one of the toughest people I know (along with having one of the biggest hearts of anyone I’ve ever met), so he should eventually be OK.

Anyway, how are you doing?

…Adding… My brother found these photos in my late grandfather’s wallet while he was visiting my uncle before I got there. My granddad was my uncle’s father…

Granddad was born in 1904.

  1. “Anyway, how are you doing?”

Preparing my resignation from the Chicago City Council because that seems to be all the rage these days.

  3. Darren Bailey marched in the Naperville parade Monday with a fairly large group that truly could best be described as dour-looking.

Afterwards he strangely ate alone with his wife in the carnival concessions area.

  7. Your pictures remind me of a time when I sat with a great uncle who was then in his 90’s. I brought along a tape recorder, plus some old pictures and a plat book to jog his memory on family, friends and neighbors. I recorded a 90 minute conversation with him and learned many untold stories about my family and ancestors. I treasured that recording.

Those of you with older relatives, I strongly recommend recording their stories in their own voice. You’ll never regret it.

Rich, I hope God grants your uncle a quick recovery and long life. Enjoy your time with him.

  9. Took the train into the office for the first time in over a month (did a number on my back, doing better), and the parking lot had more cars than I have seen since the pandemic started. It’s not pre-pandemic, but it looks more like the week between Christmas and New Years and less like the Friday after Thanksgiving.
