  2. Substitute ‘Governor’ for “dictator’ and it still applies.

Comment by Anonymous Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 3:34 pm

  3. Perhaps we should remind his honor Mr. Madigan that he is the single most important person responsible for the Guvs re-election. Drop the “I am here for the people” crap MIKE…he is your governor.

  4. Patriot:
Real credit goes to the people who gave us AccordianGal and that razor sharp campaign. I believe they are the same people who us The Ryans in 2002.
    Credit where credit is due

  5. It takes two to tango, Speaker Madigan. One would hope that you’d be more interested in spearheading the effort to pass some meaningful legislation, rather than continuing your petulant war of words with Blago. Someone needs to start acting like an adult down in Springfield. Since we all know that the governor hasn’t the capacity to do so, I would sincerely hope that the leader in the House would step up to the plate.

  6. Blagojevich is only in office because he convinced downstate union people that he was their guy, that he cared about Peoria and Litchfield and Marion. I can almost guarantee that had those folks seen past the smokescreen, they would have elected Paul Vallas. Now that the smoke is clearing, I think there’s a great deal of buyer’s remorse, kind of like buying a Mazda Miata in the sunny days of spring, then realizing in the middle of winter that perhaps it wasn’t the right decision.

We shouldn’t be deciding who gets “credit” for this albatross on state government. We should, instead, be agreeing to stronger due dilligence when electing the next Governor.

  7. He probably wanted to be a fireman once too. How about that General Assy.

  8. Dictator - 1 a: a person granted absolute emergency power; especially : one appointed by the senate of ancient Rome b: one holding complete autocratic control c: one ruling absolutely and often oppressively.

  9. I’m glad Blago won his last election with a mandate. -49% of the vote-

Comment by rezco Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 4:21 pm

  10. Can we blame Jay Hoffman for Blago’s first primary win? He campaigned hard for him down here, and may have provided the edge. What would the state look like if Vallas had won the primary? Or, for that matter, if Paul Simon had beaten later-convicted Dan Walker in 1972? The answer to both, I belive, is: much better.

Comment by Trapped In The Metro East Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 4:24 pm

  11. Cheers to that. Madigan’s no angel, but he recognizes his Constitutional role. Why should the GA roll over for a governor who wants carte blanche to do dumb things? Hasn’t worked well in Washington — you didn’t even get oversight there in the last Congress.

Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 4:27 pm

  12. I really think Madigan is one of the the only adults down there. Yeah Madigan is responsible for Blago getting re-election, he was an honorary chair of the re-election campaign. If he saw the train wreck coming I wonder why they couldn’t have just advanced a more favorable candidate against him.

Funny quote, BTW. I don’t think the governor knows the first thing about being a dictator.

Comment by Levois Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 4:39 pm

  13. Being a dictator is a lot of work and we all know the motto —- “we don’t know and we don’t care”

  15. I think Rich forgot to mention the Norb Andy’s “reunion” which started at 5 p.m. at Marley’s….Rich drank at Norb’s before he went uptown and moved to the Lake.

  16. dc–you speak of a buyer’s remorse.

But Illinois bought that Miata twice.

  17. Maybe a more apt descriptor would be a Yugo . . . probably a used one.

  19. With his veto proof Senate, he sort of is. I think Madigan is jealous.

  20. Reddbyrd: Wait a minute…’the same people who gave us the Ryans in 2002?’ Is this absurd or what? The Repubs in Illinois gave us Blago?

Comment by Chicago Dem Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 7:02 pm

  21. One thing of which we can be certain: Mr. Madigan was not talking to someone named “Tater”

  23. Blago is a “W” want-to-be. He like Lil George trying to out do Dad. Blago is still trying to act like a bigger jerk than his father-in-law.

  24. “He’s not Elvis. He’d like to be, but he’s not.”

Comment by Anon Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 8:40 pm

  25. No, he’s not a dictator. He’s the Governor, and Madigan helped make him the Governor. He could have put up his own candidate, or backed Eisendrath, or JBT but he didn’t. He fell squarely in line with Rod.

The brilliant tactician, Mike Madigan, put himself in this hell all on his own.

Comment by Truth Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 8:49 pm

  26. I think Madigan was kind of a hostage to that deal. I’ll forgive him but he’s on notice; he better be backing somebody else for next time.

Comment by Gregor Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 8:58 pm

  27. I wouldn’t say that MM is in his own hell. I think he is having a rather good time running the show and tripping up Rod.

    Comment by Big Mama T Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 9:10 pm

  28. guv’s leadership is worse than a blind man in a house of mirrors. All bungle.

    Comment by A Citizen Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 9:18 pm

  29. The “reunion” was a fine affair. Congrats to the organizers.

Comment by Duke Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 9:33 pm

  30. Hell, Blago couldn’t even spell ‘dictator’ if he tried. Got a ‘D’ in remedial college spelling….

Comment by Frustrated Democrat Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 10:07 pm

  31. I agree with WORDSLONGER. Madigan has his own faults, but he is competent and smart. I keep thinking of the Foreclosure Program that Madigan thought he had passed with IDFPR, but was yanked by Blago. If I am not mistaken, it was some months later that this Foreclosure Fiasco was all over the National News. The People of Illinois are well served that someone(Madigan)is checking this Governor’s moves. All the same….Blago has a very good chance of getting re-elected. He may think he is a Dictator–he is not–but he is a good campaigner. Basically the public is pretty dumbed down and as such he has another good shot. I can see the “Senior Commercials” now.

Comment by anon Tuesday, Apr 8, 08 @ 10:56 pm

  32. Rod has outdone Madigan, when it counted, for months. State Rep Madigan has to go. He cares only about this power and is holding our economy hostage.
