* Pritzker campaign ad goes after the Proft papers and misinfo…
A viral snowstorm of misinformation online. Political ads disguised as newspapers. Darren Bailey and his allies incessantly spreading myths and obvious falsehoods.
There is no “Purge Law” in Illinois. The law allows judges to keep violent defendants behind bars. Convicted criminals currently in jail will not be released.
An entire campaign trying to scare you.
Darren Bailey: all lies, no solutions.
* And a doozy of an ad attacking Bailey…
Did you know Darren Bailey runs a school? And they use quite the curriculum.
Lessons like:
Women in the workforce have been harmful to America.
Evolution isn’t real.
Dinosaurs and humans were definitely on Earth at the same time.
Gay people have no more claims to special rights than child molesters or rapists.
The majority of slave holders treated their slaves well.Class dismissed. Darren Bailey is too extreme for Illinois.
* The Question: Your ratings for each ad? Don’t forget to explain.

Ads are A++ as usual. Uline must be pleased with his investment. Same goes for Griffie who may be watching IAN from NYC

I forgot to rate them. But those are both As. And you know he’s spending the money behind them to make them effective.

First is a B- for me. Strong finish, but kind of a muddled message. It’s always tricky to take on unabashed liars, and this probably does as good of a job to address the bunk arriving in mailboxes as possible in 30 seconds, though the link to Bailey remains tenuous mainly because campaign finance laws are dumb and inadequate.
Second one is an A. I have long said that Bailey getting onboard with the “woke curriculum” crowd would be a real issue for him once Pritzker and associates started bringing attention to the curriculum at Lock-n-Load Academy, and here it is. Others facing the Awakers and their ilk would be wise to draw attention to this as well - “Here’s what the people shouting at your school board’s meetings over the last year want taught in your kid’s school instead.”

B+ for the first. I would have been sharper in my criticism at the top
A+ for the second. I’m terrified and I know Bailey is awful. Now with more awful.
Comment by Amalia Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 3:23 pm
Ad 1 is a B. It’s about as good a defensive ad as can be made, but it’s still defensive. If the “purge law” garbage is breaking through, I guess it’s necessary. If not, there are better messages.
Like Ad 2. That’s an A, unless the school doesn’t actually use the Bob Jones curriculum. Assuming for the time being that it’s correct, Bailey owes Illinois a long sit-down explanation of his views on dinosaurs.

The ads are well done. A- I just wish Proft’s fake newspapers were labeled as a dirty trick.
The problem Republican candidates face is that as long as people perceive Proft as a professional wacko and voters feel lied to with impunity - well in advance of the election - the risk of a voter backlash from moderates - who do not like dirty tricks in politics - increases exponentially.

I can’t think of the source offhand, but it has been reported that Full Armor uses the BJU curriculum.

B+
(A+ if they’re restricted to Chicago and the collar counties.)

Vern, you’re planning a campaign that’s short on cash. When you have JB money you can run as many tracks as you want.
Comment by lol Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 3:32 pm
B+ for the first ad. It’s important to point out these fake newspapers and spreading lies even if it doesn’t move the needle much.
A+ for second one. Ouch. If all those lesson points are accurate, man that really exposes the utter looniness of what many Christian nationalists believe. wow.
Comment by Baloneymous Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 3:36 pm
Both B+ ads.
The abortion ad is the standard. These two don’t live up to that ad, they are roughly a 1/2 a grade below.
It’s an odd flex that Proft has this doubling down thingy going as the DH’s credibly sinks, almost in concert.
The first ad is about debunking the whole thing.
The second?
Education where children are taught things that make the idea of both Christianity AND unequal acceptable is the farce the school has at its core. Why not highlight what they take pride in teaching?
B+, both
Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 3:38 pm
B+ on the first. You have to work with the quotes you are given, but there’s too many multi-syllable words in that one.
A on the second one, again provided that they can prove that his school uses those texts. I haven’t seen proof of that.
Comment by Ron Burgundy Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 3:42 pm
Both ads rate A
First one—The All Lies and no Solutions describes Bailey’s approach in his campaign. After months of blathering, Bailey has yet to offer concrete proposals to any problems facing the state. His voting record speaks volumes about his lack of vision.
Bailey’s school ad—
Thinking about Darren Bailey’s school FACA and its resources…
Is there a library on-site or do all the books have blank pages. Literature, no. Science, no. Health, no. STEM, no. Mathematics, no. Accreditation, ?
Comment by Rudy’s teeth Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 3:44 pm
The first ad is pretty clunky, but it gets a couple bonus points for coming at the Safe-T Act thing from a different angle.
The second ad is pretty great, though.

I rate the first one a B, but the second is the one I’ve been waiting for… bringing out the heavy armor (pun intended) on the school he founded. I give it an A.
Comment by Vote Quimby Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 4:14 pm
Boom. The second ad is strong. Tees up the crazy right down the fairway. Outstanding .
Comment by Say What? Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 4:21 pm
First gets a C. Clumsy transition to the Purge Law, and since I haven’t personally received any of the phony newspapers, I would be confused by this if I hadn’t read about them on CapFax.
Second gets a B. The threat of him advancing those ideas in public schools is vague. If the majority of Illinoisans were Christian Nationalists, JB would be “extreme” to them.
Comment by Streator Curmudgeon Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 4:28 pm
==The threat of him advancing those ideas in public schools is vague.==
The hit on things like this isn’t that he’s going to advance those things, it’s that he’s a weirdo who believes those things.
“He’s not like us” is one of the most powerful attacks in politics.
Comment by Arsenal Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 5:02 pm
=== as many tracks as you want.===
No matter how much cash, all non-presidential campaigns are short on voter attention span. That’s the limiting principle I had in mind when rating these ads.
Comment by vern Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 5:04 pm
A+ for both. Truth makes for powerful Ads.
Comment by PublicServant Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 5:19 pm
The first one I give a B+. The second one I give an A or an A+ if you see/hear like I did on TV this evening before I saw it posted here. I was only paying partial attention at the beginning and so I thought these were actual Bailey quotes and I said to myself “oh brother, this is bad for Bailey.” If more people interpret it like I did, it will be very, very effective.
Comment by G'Kar Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 8:11 pm
Gov. Pritzker needs to be careful with the 2nd ad. I also don’t believe in evolution (Genesis 1) and I also believe dinosaurs were on Earth the same time man was (Job 40:15-24).
I’m a bible believing Christian, and I’m not supporting Darren Bailey. But Gov. Pritzker needs to understand that that there are bible-believing Christians in his camp. I’m one of them.

Surprised but good point. And good for you.

The first ad is a solid “B”, factual, concise,to the point.
The second ad is hall of fame material, this is what I was looking for. “A+”. If you were wondering and hadnot searched bailey’s school for yourself, this ad is the goods. Absolutely spot on and should scare any normal person. Bailey absolutely wants a christian theocracy in Illinois.
More of this please.
Comment by JS Mill Tuesday, Sep 27, 22 @ 9:06 pm
Fivegreenleaves, I trust you know that not all of us who are Christian reject evolution and scientific findings. These rejections are not part of the definition of being Christian (nor for thinking and living with scripture).

First ad merits a B. Second ad is an A+. As a famous announcer once said That ball is oughta here.

Two F’s. If you’re explaining, you’re losing.

== Two F’s. If you’re explaining, you’re losing.
There’s a difference between explaining and calling someone out on their BS.
These are both solid “A” material. The second one is better than the first.

Streator Curmudgeon, if the majority of Illinoisan’s were Christian Nationalists, JB would not be governor. And I would not be living here.

As a Christian, why put so much emphasis on the Old Testament? Jesus came to give us new laws to live by. Do you follow all the old laws (Sabbath, ritual hand washing, no pork, no shellfish, etc.)?
If not, this feels like the kind of picking-and-choosing that turns people off.
