So it looks like Tom Bennett currently has no opposition for Jason Barickman’s senate seat, unless Dan Brady throws his hat in.
Who will then get Bennett’s seat?

Rain, overcast and cool temps here in the 217. So warm we have tulips sticking their heads up in the garden.

Regarding mayor of Chicago race, it never ceases to amaze me that more candidates dont drop down to run for City Clerk or Treasurer. There are 10 candidates running for mayor while the incumbent clerk and treasurer are unopposed.
Wouldnt jt make more sense for a candidate to run for one of these other offices than against 10 others?

how has Dan Brady not expressed interest in that seat? he is an outstanding legislator, and could begin a whole new career in public service in the upper chamber. i guess if he doesn’t do this, his career in public service is complete. thats unfortunate.

He doesn’t live in the district.

Is Rep. Brady contiguous to the new district? This is a remap year and typically a person could run in the district as long as they moved in by a certain time. Maybe this doesn’t apply to appointments.

There’s another big vote today in the Chicago City Council on zoning, for the Chicago Casino. One concern that reportedly has addressed by Bally’s is minority hiring. The casino/entertainment center will be a big job and tax revenue creator, should it come to fruition.

Also for the Transit TIF which has faced opposition across the spectrum. Gonna be a doozy today on the 2nd Floor of city hall. The votes should be interesting. Hopefully someone takes a pic of the vote board. Its inexcusable that the City Clerk doesnt make votes immediately public.

Today is 12 years to the day (Dec. 14, 2010) since the shocking day in Springfield. Mayor Tim Davlin’s death.
Seems like the Dec. 8-14 time period has a lot of tragedy in recent Illinois history. Senator Bennett’s passing last week occurred 8 years to the day of JBT’s sudden death (Dec. 9, 2014). Plus Mayor Davlin’s suicide (12/14/2010), and former SOS IG Jim Burns’ passing (Dec. 11, 2020). Plus during that time Blago’s arrest (12/9/2008).

To low level - Wednesday, Dec 14, 22 @ 8:37 am, ref Chicago candidates:
– Some candidates simply run because they can, not because they stand any chance at winning. But Quinn isn’t running for Mayor, right?
