* Your thoughts?…

///BREAKING/// John Lausch, Chicago's top federal prosecutor since 2017, will be stepping down in "early 2023" Attorney General Merrick Garland announced.
A Trump nominee, Lausch stayed on the job after Biden's election because of an unusual push from Illinois' two senators.

  1. Maybe a sign that the various corruption cases are at a place that he’s comfortable with…

  2. He’s done an excellent job.

    There are other former AUSA’s who could also do an excellent job. Let’s hope the Senators advance a candidate who has the experience, judgment, leadership, and administrative skills to keep moving the Office forward, in a nonpartisan manner,

  3. He should be praised for following the trail of corruption no matter where it leads. MJM had so many protectors at the local and state level, absent Lausch, MJM would not sit where he is now awaiting a criminal trial.

  4. ==so many protectors at the local and state level==
    Many of the cases leading up to this were kicked off under Zachary Fardon.

  5. The cases have been brought, and the other attorneys there are more than capable of bringing them to conclusion. He may have stayed longer than he wanted to already, and with the Madigan trial well into 2024 we can’t expect him to do more. Practically speaking, if he goes back to a big law firm, he would be leaving a couple million dollars on the table just staying that long. At least.

  6. Lausch also assisted on the evolving Biden classified Docs investigation…

    “Pursuant to Section 600.2B of the Special Counsel Regulations, Garland assigned US Attorney John Lausch Jr. to conduct an initial investigation to inform my decision whether to appoint a special counsel. “I selected him to conduct the initial investigation because I was confident his experience would ensure that it would be done professionally and expeditiously,”

  7. He’s had a tough job for a good 5+ years and made a solid name for himself. Probably wants a less-intensive, far higher-paying job, which is everybody’s dream.

  8. Time to make money and enjoy his young family. His son is a great athlete and plays both baseball and football at NW time for him to enjoy that great experience.

  9. The Biden assignment from Garland makes him even more valuable to a law firm. He’ll be writing his own ticket.

  10. “…absent Lausch, MJM would not sit where he is now awaiting a criminal trial.” I doubt that. I expect that what became the Madigan case started under Patrick Fitzgerald.

    Look for a weak USA to be appointed next, and look for the pols and press to clamor for them to focus on “violent street crime” (not political corruption).
