State Rep. Debbie Meyers-Martin, D-Matteson, said the bill, introduced last month, would give county homeowners who are behind on property taxes and at risk of losing their homes a chance to keep their properties.
Her legislation, House Bill 1238, and corresponding legislation in the Senate introduced by Sen. Robert Peters, D-Chicago, would allow taxpayers the opportunity to catch up on delinquent tax bills, which Meyers-Martin said has been a big obstacle for homeowners in the south and southwest suburbs.
Under the current system, homeowners who want to avoid having their home sold for back taxes have to pay the full amount of taxes owed, plus interest and penalties, which can be a daunting challenge, Meyers-Martin said. […]
Her bill was introduced Jan. 18 in the House, and the Senate bill was introduced Jan. 20. For now, both bills are being evaluated in committee.

A bill to make sure that patients know about changes to their medical records has been introduced in the Illinois state capitol.
Representative Dan Caulkins, the bill’s sponsor, said that some healthcare provider systems are filtering out information on changes to medical records. He said that the bill is also meant to make sure that patients have the most accurate version of their medical history.
“What we what we hope to accomplish here is to give the patients an opportunity, or the comfort of knowing that what they’re seeing in their medical record is the most current and up to date version,” Caulkins said.
The bill also makes sure that patients know if their records have been altered and why, including after their date of care.

In light of a rising number of mass shootings the country has seen in recent weeks, U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette, a Denver Democrat, and two Democratic colleagues put forward another push to ban the sale of high-capacity gun magazines nationwide.
The Keep Americans Safe Act would prohibit the sale of high-capacity magazines capable of holding more than 15 rounds to anyone other than law enforcement, according to a news release from DeGette’s office. Co-sponsored by Reps. Dina Titus of Nevada and Brad Schneider of Illinois, the bill comes after occurrence of more than 40 mass shootings in January, the most the country has ever seen in the first month of the year, according to DeGette.

I’m highly trained as a self-checkout operator, but the store clerk always must walk over and verify my alcohol purchase. So where is this a problem?

Regarding the Friess bill, let me quote first.
== must be expressly designated as (i) a male athletic team or sport, (ii) a female athletic team or sport, or (iii) a coeducational athletic team or sport. Provides that an athletic team or sport designated as being female is available only to participants who are female, based on their biological sex. ==
Upon reading the first clause of this passage, my first thoughts were, (a) I disagree, and (b) this might be a temporary solution for those moving forward in areas where transgender is a scary concept. Personally, I am opposed, but politically, this might be a first step.
Then I read the second clause, where the bill basically says, “this is really about protecting girls. Only biological female can participate in girls/women’s sports. No such language exists for boys/men, and no similarly language exists for “co-ed” sports.”
May this biased bill never see the light of day again, have been read once.
Transgender women and girls are not a threat to cisgender girls and women. And given the probability of transgender women and girls being abused by cisgender boys and men, this bill simply assumes it is okay for transgender girls and women to be abused by cisgender boys and men, if they choose to participate in sports.
The bigotry expressed by this bill is patently obvious. It is also intentional. Suggesting this protects girls is lunacy. Suggesting it prevents boys from taking girls trophies is dopey.

Use the specter of underage drinking to limit the ability of grocery stores to downsize staff by creating a popular product a human has to check out for you? Layoffs and automation are a problem.

Surely, you understand that drinkers cannot be trusted. We are a dangerous lot, us drinkers. We need to be monitored tightly, by real humans, in slow lanes. Good grief.
This bill is creating a problem that doesn’t exist. It probably assumes kids get older people to buy their booze, and somehow, this will prevent that from happening.

Evidence? I strongly suspect this is another litter box myth. My providers PHR automatically emails me on changes and, of course, new bills.

All retail self-checkout (SCO) registers use the same or similar software. When alcohol is scanned at a SCO register the transaction stops, alerts the attendant, the attendant takes control of the transaction and verifies the age of the consumer in order to complete the transaction.
Also, alcohol can be purchased online and delivered curbside or to a consumer’s house. A policy the sponsor supported. I am not sure the sponsor is achieving what he believes he is achieving.

The problem is me, standing behind you in the self-checkout queue waiting five minutes for the overwhelmed store employee with the giant ear piercings to saunter over to check your ID and punch in their code. It’s called the “express lane” for a reason, chief. Take your 12-pack of tropical mango White Claws to one of the belt lanes.

Is it the customer’s fault or is it the store’s fault? Sounds like a little bit of misplaced anger.

As someone who hasn’t used a staffed checkout line in many years, SB166 needs to die in Rules. If someone thinks that will prevent the underage sale of alcohol, they have never tried to purchase alcohol at a self-checkout lane.

You’ve never been to a dispensary. Patrons must provide proof of age just to enter most facilities, and there is no such thing as self-checkout in dispensaries. Heck, you can’t even touch their products in most cases until the purchase is complete.
However, if one could purchase weed at self-checkout, then of course I’d support that.

Am i the only one here who gets his beer from a liquor store anymore? Better selection, cheaper prices, and no self check out.

If SB0166 passed the there will be mighty long lines at the single cashiered checkout over at Walmart. Now that I think of it though that isn’t much different than before Walmart added like 50 self checkout stations.
