I haven’t been this skeptical of a Bears plan since they tried to convince me that Mitchell Trubisky was a franchise quarterback.

I’m surprised how many school districts pulled the chute on in-school learning today. The pandemic made many districts realize at-home learning *can* be done, but to make this choice for a “storm” that’s seemingly just a normal winter weather event…a lot of parents had to scramble for childcare today, no doubt.

Interesting political ad in the Hyde Park Herald. Six of the eleven 5th Ward aldermanic candidates took out a full page ad attacking one of the others (”Choose ANYBODY BUT YANCY” - capital letters in the ad), paid for by something called the “Committee for a Safer Chicago” (which cannot be found in a google search). They call him “the Machine candidate in progressive costume”, and accuse him of residing in South Holland, not the 5th Ward.
Fun times.

@The Truth: On the other hand, as an adult with no kids, I love that we know enough about work from home that when I look out the window and see sleet I can get go “eh, I’ll wear sweatpants and stay home today.”

Do you read palms, give lottery numbers, any betting picks?
Yes, I’m sure parents are scrambling, but choosing safety for busing, as an example, seems prudent when a district can.
So, are you complaining about a district concerned about safety?

Yesterday on Twitter, I asked my Chicago followers (on average, a very politically engaged, decidedly left-of-center bunch) if they had ever donated money to a Chicago mayoral primary campaign (as opposed to a one-on-one runoff race).
Only about 15% of the 121 Chicago respondents said that they had, with the remaining 85% saying no.
While the results obviously aren’t representative of anything but themselves, I do think that they help explain — when coupled with the lefty vote being split six ways from Sunday — why the least favored candidate(s) of my Twitter followers are the most likely to make it to the run-off.
Which is a long prelude to asking CapFax commenters and readers: Have you donated money to a local political campaign in the last 10 years? And if not, why not?
(My answer is Yes — but only in the rare instances where MrsJM or I knew the candidates personally.)

Freezing rain and sleet can be more dangerous than snow. I’m sure most parents prefer inconvenience to injury and death.

Yes. Not large amounts, but typically anywhere from $50 to $250, and maybe $2000 in total in any given year.
Why? Well, I used to work in politics and I believe in the system, even though the system is expensive. And I want to support candidates that I believe and also, full disclosure, as a government relations person, I have a professional stake in the outcome of a lot of local races.
It also gives me some skin in the game. I wish more people felt like they had a stake in the outcome of our elections. It’s good for democracy and would produce better government.

“Wind and rain, wind and rain” (John Wayne as paratroop commander in ‘The Longest Day’) in the 60827. I’ll let the insane drivers have the roads today; remember to speed up and take stupid risks when the roads are more slippery.(Sarcasm).
Campaign Oddity File: Riverdale village board candidate putting yard-style signs at a R-Dale/ Dolton border intersection had to put them up in Dolton; the R-Dale side is all concrete right there.
I have never donated to a political campaign.
