…surprisingly little committee activity in the house today.

The Blackhawks are caving in to the Russians! Sad

Disappointed the House passed a bill naming the black walnut the State Nut. I thought for sure Bailey had a good shot at that.

Black Walnuts the state nut? Absurd! Black Walnut tress are trash trees like silver maples and mulberry trees! No on actually like them!
Wait. Sorry about that. Good morning all. Life is peachy over here in West Central IL

Having a backyard that has the trifecta of silver maple, mulberry, and black walnut, I absolutely prefer the black walnut.

@ Pius
When I bought my farmhouse and 3-acre yard 18 years ago, the old farmer who had been here for decades had created a beautiful tree garden, and lined the creek bed with hosta. A true showcase, so to speak. He had always accepted those free tree offerings that (still) come in the mail to homes in rural America.
Today, I am fighting a losing battle to rid the yard of mulberries, constantly burning silver maple detritus, and routinely sending black walnuts flying with my John Deere lawn mower.
But I agree with you. Of the three, at least the walnut trees are hearty beasts, and even stately to look at.
Happy Spring to you.

Today’s Illinois Times has several stories previewing the Springfield mayoral, treasurer, and alderperson races:

That being said, re: the Ward 5 preview. Sam Cahnman now married and having a 1-month-old daughter? Wow.
