  2. Too soon to tell, but yesterday’s unanimous Supreme Court ruling vacating the conviction of former officials in New York might be good news for the ComEd 4. From the NYT:

“The Supreme Court on Thursday threw out two fraud convictions during Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s administration in New York, dealing prosecutors the latest in a series of setbacks in their efforts to pursue federal charges of public corruption in state government.”

  4. If the SCOTUS overturns the ComEd 4 convictions, where everyone obviously is admitting to doing things to keep Madigan happy specifically to grease wheels of legislation, it basically is a signal that conservatives don’t actually care about corruption at all. You’ll never be able to get a corruption conviction unless you have a signed document that says “I GET: Legislation. YOU GET: Specific Benefit.”

The Percoco and Ciminelli decisions yesterday were unanimous, as was the McDonnell decision.

  6. @JoanP: I didn’t read the decisions yet, so I apologize for that. The McDonnell decision was waaaay weaker facts than the ComEd case though as I recall (basically it was gifts, but no identified governmental act). I’ll have to review the facts of the more recent decisions.

I’ll be happy to retract my answer and convert it to “establishment insiders don’t care about corruption” if it turns out that the facts of the recent decisions are more analogous to the ComEd cases.

  7. Fishing season is here. Time to hit the Illinois waters.

  8. Grandson of Man,
I’ve never cared for the killing the fish part of fishing (I keep guppies and goldfish, the bluegills look too much like my pets); but the idea of sitting quietly by a body of water in a wood area with a few beers sounds like a glorious way to spend some time.

That’s it, to sit quietly by a body of water and absolutely enjoy the outdoors. During glorious spring. Especially in Illinois with its great bodies of water. Awesome that we’ve done bipartisan investment in infrastructure for these places.

You don’t have to kill the fish. Just throw it back.

  11. Chonk. all about Chonkasaurus and the two crazy guys..Joe Santore and Al Scorch… who brought us video evidence of the MASSIVE snapper on the Chicago River. They are hilarious, smart, interesting. WAY interesting guys.

  12. Hannibal Lecter,
I’m afraid I’d hurt the fish. Or catch a gar or catfish and have to figure out how to dehook him without harming either of us.
