  2. I know I’m not nearly as much as Springfield, inner workings of state house politics guy as the rest of the commenters here, but my eyes roll over in my head when people start talking about second or third readings, or parliamentary procedure.

How long should I just check out if all I want to know is how many of the bills actually get passed?

  3. The sun comes up so early these days, waking me up before I’m ready to get up. Which interferes with my lifestyle as an old retired guy.

Weather is beautiful these days. Life is good.

  6. @ Homebody

There are some really good “rules of order” books out there that are very affordable, if you want a desk reference. Indeed, I am pretty sure you can get a copy of “Roberts” rules of order (parliamentary procedures) dirt cheap online, if you do not mind a clean but used copy.

Roberts’ Rules are pretty extensive, in that the it covers just about every imaginable situation. That version does take a little time to truly learn well.

Alice Sturgis put together a very accessible version (The Standard Code of Parliamentary Procedure) that is used in a lot of parliamentary groups. Her version is simpler, and intended to help avoid unnecessary conflicts that can arise. It is can help a lot in terms of understanding the basic rules.

Finally, there a lot of online resources that you can download for free, if you want to keep a cheat sheet around.

  9. Staying off the roads in the 60827 between 3pm-6pm; too many people driving like there’s nobody else on the roads.
And remember the reason for Memorial Day; to honor the sacrifices of our fallen military. It’s not about sales and partying; freedom is still not free.

I confess that I first read this as “paramilitary groups”. :)
