Ramirez-Rosa isn’t one I take too seriously when it comes to state issues, as he couldn’t even stay on as a LG candidate which is still a head scratcher overall to his politics
The context with Biss, that ticket, how they went down, and now this… Ramirez-Rosa makes a better alderman than advocate on a larger scale… but he keeps trying.

This is big. Rosa isn’t an ordinary Alderman in 2023. He’s not only the floor leader but the Zoning Chairman of Chicago. Definitely one of the most powerful socialists in elected office today. Is JB really a criminal for not providing health care to non-U.S citizens? I think it’s being unfair to the Governor.

Ramirez-Rosa has earned almost a million dollars in taxpayer money in the last eight years.
Over $100k/yr in salary since taking office, this year is $122k/yr.
The annual household income in Chicago was $65k per US Census data. Ah the Socialists model - everyone will get free stuff and those in power will get a lot more.
Congrats DSA you’ve turned into a fine group of elected officials, finding ways to push for higher taxes through social guilt campaigning, while at the same time lining your pockets with taxpayer money.
Looking at a previous post seems your friends downstate are looking to do the same with their salaries.
How long before you all pass the bill to make Chicago school board a full time job with $100k salary and get more of the DSA elected to those jobs?

It’s a temporary hold on new enrollments. No one who had coverage lost it. The program remains the most generous benefit plan in the country for undocumented residents, even with the changes announced. Not seeing anything criminal or remotely close to a DeSantis policy here.

Taking him seriously at this level of policy is no different than any person using the word “criminal”, especially with his past history.
So no, I don’t think of him or his state policies at all, nor do I take him or them seriously, when he was a LG candidate for 17 minutes or now.

Ramirez-Rosa showing that he’s not ready for a leadership role…whenever there’s a protest, he’s the first one reaching for his bullhorn to rile people up. I like his politics, but he is the last one to approach the “where is the money” conversation like an adult.
Rather than working with the Mayor and Governor to find funds, he instead aims to insult and alienate the Governor. There was a better way to do this.

Rosa and Rodrigues and their comrades in the socialist wing of the Democratic Party demonstrate clearly that, just as there are right wing lunatics holding elective office, there are also left wing lunatics holding elective office.
Polarization and partisan gerrymandering cause this dynamic, where extreme candidates are rewarded for being extreme during primaries. That gets them elected, and then they only appear interested in representing the extremes and not the entirety of their districts. The result is really bad outcomes in political discourse and public policy.

Anonin’ used to rightfully call out similar circular firing squad antics when it was the GOP, though Ramirez-Rosa calls himself a Democratic Socialist, not a Democrat.
First line from Fran Spielman’s May 8 Sun-Times story:
“Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson’s plan to empower Democratic Socialist Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa as both his City Council floor leader and Zoning Committee chairman is a ‘high-risk, high-reward’ political gamble.”
The new mayor has so far gone out of his way to not pick fights with the governor the way his predecessor did. Is he going to tolerate it in his city council surrogate?

As some others have said, nobody currently enrolled in this plan is losing benefits, and more importantly, despite multiple asks from the Governor and others, nobody asking for this expansion can “show their work” when it comes to how much this will actually cost. We know now that the original program blew right through the budgeted estimates. And yet expansion continues to somehow be a goal. How about we work to take care of the citizens of Illinois, those folks who deserve to have a pension they can count on etc., first? I’m not saying we can’t help people coming here to make a better life, but we also have to be realistic in balancing that ask with the fiscal realities our state faces each day.

He is kind of like the folks in CA demanding billions in reparations. When asked where the money will come from they both don’t card and don’t know. The Mayor needs the Governor more than vice versa. Not smart having your key guy in the Council calling out JB to be a criminal
