It’s a Twitter that has my attention… that much is true.
In the hamlet, way too foggy/smokey
My own mental health these past weeks has needed my running to exist. I haven’t ran in almost a week, it’s been tougher in past weeks, but “today” seems like the weather… so much unclear, it’s unhealthy, and totally out of one’s control.
Be well, all

Still no power in Springfield. CWLP map says I’m NOT in an outage area but I definitely am. Try to call the outage line and the main line over there and “the person you are trying to reach is not accepting calls at this time.”

Frank Coconate died. Had no idea. Good piece up at the Sun Times. Guy was very bizarre. Think the piece left out the part about him owning the rifle that mobster Calabrese owned. He claimed they were recruiting him for the mob when he was friends with a son.

“Tired of the smoke gets in your eyes” refrain. Would like to see a clear blue sky someday soon.
Waiting for the mayor and the CPD to provide some leadership on the crime and mob action events in the city. Thinking the sky will be blue and the air quality will improve again before that happens.

Would that be a paradigm upshift, or downshift?

No fog/smog at my place today. Very sunny. Sox have won 2 in a row. Life is good.

Any chance that Jim Leach could start his own severe weather podcast on days on yesterday? Plus if it returns later this weekend?

In Iowa (Lee county so at least adjactent to IL) we had a tornado warning yesterday and the power was out for a couple hours. Went out yesterday and got a weather radio and some emergency lights for the basement here. We were using laptops as light providers. No damage done though other than some shingles off our garage. Lucky.

Lots of intersections with no working traffic signals in Springfield today, but no major impact from yesterday save for a few small branches down in my yard.

@Amalia:
Your posting about Frank Coconate surprised me.
I swear that I saw him on the local news broadcast only two or three weeks ago. He was protesting against housing migrants at Wright College.
I will never forget the profile of Coconate in “The Chicago Reader.” He was disciplined by the city for some reason and assigned to work over the weekend in the streets and sanitation yard as punishment. Due to union rules, he actually earned more money by working over the weekend. I believe that he was assigned to the 27th Ward, then the bailiwick of the Sewers Department boss, Ed Quigley. When City Hall called Quigley to obtain information about Coconate, he answered “He always buys tickets to all of our fund raisers.”

== CWLP map says I’m NOT in an outage area but I definitely am. ==
I live in the near SW side of Springfield. Lost power like everyone else. CWLP outage map, when I put in my address, said we were one of many outages. Now I’m listed as not being in an outage area but no power.
I heard a story (not naming the source, so call it unsubstantiated) that said CWLP had deliberately locked out the neighborhood I live in fed by the nearby switching substation so they could safely remove all the fallen branches / trees / poles. Have observed CWLP crews working the area and at the substation.
Hopeful we may get power back sometime tonight.

Tomorrow I’m headed to Ontario for a mini vacay, the first time I’ve left the country in about 8 years.
Excited to see how things are different there.
