  1. Driving back from Toronto last week, I was surprised at the number of Illinois plates I saw in Ontario - far more than any other state or province.

  3. Loved picnicking at Grant Park Symphony concert at Millennium Park. Chicago is so beautiful. And concert is free!

  5. Sunny, bright, still cleaning up after the Derecho in West Central Illinois. Life is good.

  6. NASCAR Chicago Street Race was a smash success. It needs to be brought back next year. And to the folks complaining about the city getting a bad deal and/or it should’ve been an F1 race instead, F1 races cost $25-50 million a year in bid fees to host.

  7. Finally got enough rain in Kankakee so that I had to cut my grass yesterday for the first time in like a month. Too bad I forgot to charge my mower battery last time I mowed so I had to keep swapping batteries.

  8. I know it was in the Friday roundup, but I was sorry to hear of Rich Bradley’s passing last week. Great radio voice and even greater guy.

  9. The NASCAR race was a bright spot to a terrible day of very heavy rainfall, with severe flooding in places like Cicero. They were racing against time that day (no pun intended), to get the race in before nightfall.

  10. “Illinois State Representative Kam Buckner, who played defensive tackle for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been working on what he calls a “college athlete’s bill of rights” in Illinois. He said this weekend’s hazing reports have encouraged him to include additional language protecting student athletes in the bill.

“Today, hazing and sexual assault allegations showcase another grotesque way Student Athletes have been preyed upon,” Bucker said Saturday. “As a former college athlete this culture of turning a blind eye to harms, deliberate endangerment, neglect & dereliction of duty all in the name of “Wins” & revenue is disgusting.”

  11. Back in Berwyn! The house is still standing, power and internet is on here. We knew that from the security system before we left Iowa. The basement has dried to some extent. We saw @8inches of water on the security cameras. Plan to just toss it all out. Nothing of any importance. We do not have a finished basement.
No obvious damage to the foundation and if the washer and dryer are damaged (due to debris we can’t get to them yet to check it out) then they are +30 years old and are due for replacement. The HW heater is newer but maybe tankless this time if we can’t get him dried out.

  12. Sunny and hotting up in 60827. Had a small storm-related sewer backup a few days ago–started to flood and then started to drain before anything got wrecked. Grass taking advantage of the rain also.
