* 2:14 pm - The House Republicans are claiming on the House floor that the House Democratic budget for next fiscal year has a $2 billion deficit - and they’re not even finished voting on the agency budgets. Listen or watch here.
* 2:19 pm - For some background, this is what happened earlier today…
The House voted 63-51 Wednesday for the main operations budget that would keep state government running, then planned to vote for a more expanded version.
But whether this proposal or something like it will become the state’s next budget remains far from clear.
That’s because Senate Democrats are preparing their own budget plan that could be more modest than what the House supports.
* 4:00 pm - The House Democratic budget deficit is up to $3.1 billion and rising as of now according to the House Republicans

For what? They’re voting on tons of separate bills.

Go to this page and click “Bills Passed the House” under the heading “Date Inquiry Reports.”
The GA’s website is very easy to use. Try it.

GOPs as in MOPEs are cracking folks up…..Now they want leaders to cut a closed door deal. Last year they wanted the munchkins to be all powerful.
“On The Rocks” Stephens is sluring badly…he is on his 3rd “coffee”
Yikes!

Rich,
Thank you. I’d never been to that part of the GA’s website, or at least they’ve added a lot since the last time I was there.
I can at least breathe easier now knowing that the House Dems haven’t cut funding for my job.

Are both House Republicans saying this, or just one of them?
Comment by VanillaMan Wednesday, May 21, 08 @ 3:31 pm
HDems budget only has a 2 billion hole? Shoot, that’s close enough for government work.

As bad as this is I agree with the McCain campaign suggestion that we talk on blogs about this being the time for solutions. Just like the solution the McCain campaign came up with to get rid of some of the lobbyists in his campaign. It was a novel solution to a poilitical problem devised by the two former lobbyists still in charge of his campaign.
I am excited to be a part of this national McCain blogging effort.

I can’t listen to the debate on my computer. Do the House Republicans actually have a reasoning for their statements?
Comment by Downers Delight Wednesday, May 21, 08 @ 4:22 pm
Yesssss,keep it coming, Dems!!!

Yes Tom Cross, we get it. You want new casinos and your gambling lobbyist friends aren’t going to keep throwing you campaign cash if you don’t deliver one of these days. So keep up the Chicken Little routine. Good luck with it.

admiral - did you get credited with your mccain points?
the lobbyists in charge of the mccain campaign are going to be causing a lot of blogspam a lot of blogs.
thecapitolfax is prominently listed as a recommended blog to spam.
back on topic - how does $2 billion compare to the recent past?
Comment by jerry 101 Wednesday, May 21, 08 @ 6:01 pm
first it was a $2B hole, now it is $3.1B? What did the GOPs (as in DOPE) claim it was by the time they were done voting? Blah, blah, blah…there would be an even LARGER hole if their crazy gas tax suspension idea was approved!
If you want fiscal responsibility, don’t look to Cross and Co.

Since it is ok to call the GOP names, we should reciprocate so the Dems don’t feel left out.
How about those criminally irresponsible Dems (we can call them CIDS) spending the revenue from the future generations on their cronies? They bring to mind the cartoon character from the Popeye series Wimpy…. he always wanted a hamburger today, but could only pay next tuesday…..

Help me find House GOP outrage on the Bush-Cheney War deficit
Comment by Wild Bill Wednesday, May 21, 08 @ 7:53 pm
If the House GOP votes for any of these budgets they lose all their campaign ads for the fall. They can’t blame Dems for the fiscal faults if their names are all over the roll calls. They can’t call for new leadership if they had a hand on the wheel of the Titanic.
The House GOP is playing a game as much as the House Dems are playing a game here.
There are no saints here, just a bunch of sorry local hacks who’ll likely end up with pay raises.

Also heard the higher ed increase is phony. House Dem hihger ed “increase” includes transfer monies from DNR to the UofI… no new dollars.

What do you expect, there are over 6000 bills purposed through the house. I’m not sure which is better, the federal House or the state House.
