* CNBC…
Each year, as part of our overall assessment of state business climates, CNBC’s America’s Top States for Business study considers how welcoming each state is to workers and their families.
Life, Health and Inclusion is one of the study’s ten categories of competitiveness. And this year, with the nationwide worker shortage so severe, the category is taking on increased importance in our methodology.
We consider multiple quality of life factors, including crime rates, environmental quality, and health care. We also look at the quality and availability of childcare, which is one of the most important factors in getting parents back into the workforce.
Casting the widest possible net for workers means not turning anyone away. So we consider inclusiveness in state laws by measuring protections against discrimination, as well as voting rights. And with surveys showing a substantial percentage of women considering abortion restrictions when making a choice of where to live in the wake of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, reproductive rights are part of this year’s equation as well.
The worst-rated states: Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee, Indiana, Missouri, Alabama/South Carolina (tied), Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.

===Florida… Tennessee, Indiana, Missouri, Alabama/South Carolina (tied)… and Texas===
All stores usually cited by Wirepoints/IPI folks that Illinois *MUST* beat because they are so business friendly.

It’s real. Republicans “won”, but are losing society because being angry at all things is more important than inclusion… and workers and businesses are paying attention.

What’s interesting about the worst 10 states (in this survey) is the amount of people moving to places like Florida , Texas, and Tennessee.

Red states the professional Illinois doomsayers want us to emulate are going back to the old South, with legalized bigotry and anti-abortion. Now let’s see how “business-friendly” states like Florida will be, as people and businesses (conventions) have reportedly started fleeing.

Well said. I never thought I’d see a top ten “worst business states” list all be red states, but that’s where the GOP has steered themselves in 2024.

Re: Florida-unless you make six figures good luck finding affordable hazard insurance.

With the exception of a Dem Governor in LA, all states completely led by Republicans. Of course.

“Yes, the state has a growing economy, lots of jobs, affordable housing, good schools, and low taxes, and lots of people are *actually moving there,* but have you seen their abortion and gender-affirming policies? WORST PLACE EVER”
Laughable

Except for Indiana & Oklahoma (not even a state at that time), all former slave states. Hmm …

“New College of Florida, which in recent months has been taken over by allies of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, is facing major staff shortages as faculty members are fleeing for other jobs.”

… and yet, Disney in Florida, and their choices recently…
Must not know many 25-35 professional women seeking work across the country either.
Laughable until it’s 100s of millions lost to, say, Florida.

Keep on keeping on with that way of thinking. Seems to be working out great for ya’ll.
I’ve yet hear of anyone moving to those states from Illinois where my first thought wasn’t “Bye, Felicia.”

Another fake news hit piece from the disgusting left-wing socialists at, uh, CNBC.

Some states prioritize capital. Some states prioritize people.
I did read this morning of a 16 year old who was killed by a machine mishap in a chicken processing plant in Mississippi (and MS didn’t even make the bottom 10). Despite child labor violations having increased 238% since 2015, some states have been loosening child labor restrictions.
Some states prioritize capital. Some states prioritize people.

I’m sorry this list didn’t include your metrics of “plus 50 points for Republican Governors” and “plus 10 points for every VC financier who moves there”.

Called State dental insurance provider with regard to an outstanding claim from my dentist. Was told that the State is over 500 days out from paying this claim. How is this not factored into how a State is rated?
