A friend of mine works for Constellation (excelon). Last week they received an email that the company made a $1.3 billion profit last quarter. This week they received an email letting them know there would be no pay increase. He is a part of their very large security force.
$1.3 billion profit in one quarter? I am assuming what he is telling me is accurate. Something to think about when they ask for a rate hike again.

Fair talk reminds me: I want to turn Grant Park in Chicago into permanent festival/fair/event space. Reroute all traffic around it permanently (no cars need to be between Michigan and JBPDSLSD ever), make sure bike/bus routes are good, even when events are happening. When events aren’t happening, still keep it blocked off from cars and pedestrianize the whole thing. Then add a few permanent amenity buildings like restrooms and the like.
It seems weird to me that in a city the size of Chicago we don’t have a good dedicated event space. Right now Grant Park is trying to be everything to everyone, and isn’t particularly great at any of it.

Northwestern Football hazing controversy continues to percolate.
Some of Fitzgerald’s allies have begun pushing back hard. Former NU Defensive Coordinator Mike Hankwitz, who retired after the Wildcats’ Citrus Bowl victory, posted a strong response as to all of the time Fitzgerald spent trying to mentor his players which included zero tolerance for hazing activities.
What an unholy mess! The team is going to need years to recover from this scandal. Prepare for the worst possible outcome.

I’m looking at the weather forecast for the next 10 days and it looks fantastic. Isabel, I hate to doubt you, but that does not correlate with the State Fair coming to town.
