A nice morning in beautiful DuPage County, but it’s supposed to be a scorcher this afternoon, continuing for a couple of days. Any days over 95 degrees or below 5 degrees are just miserable, but we can tough it out, as one does.

I was shocked then a little embarrassed at my naivety to learn today that the butter cow has wire support underneath it.

At least I have a justification for not mowing my lawn this week. Too hot to mow, plus this heat would turn my lawn brown in a day or two after mowing.

great story in the Tribune about milkweed garden program to help Monarch butterflies. collective efforts can help. just saw a story on line about beekeeping in Slovenia and how it is a national pastime treasure. we can help the environment at our own homes.

Hope you see this — yesterday you mentioned subscribing to a German TV service. Would you mind sharing which one? I’ve been shopping, can’t decide.
Thanks!

There’s a new story about a Google employee working 1 hour a week and drawing a six figure salary:
https://www.businessinsider.com/google-employee-says-he-works-one-hour-days-fortune-2023-8
Basically, tech companies dramatically increased their headcount just to have a large number of employees, so too many employees not enough work. The next time anybody says “run government like a business” or “state employees are lazy and overpaid” keep this article in mind. Slacking off that much for a government employee could get you fired and maybe even arrested.
