* Our old pal Maxwell…
Gov. J.B. Pritzker calls Missouri’s ban on gender affirming care for trans teens “despicable.”
"They deserve to live in a place that's welcoming, that's affirming, that supports them. And we provide that kind of care in Illinois. And we support people who do provide that care.” pic.twitter.com/WEmn55xmZd

* Full quote…
My message is not just to the teenagers but to their families that, first of all, they deserve to live in a place that’s welcoming, that’s affirming, that supports them. And we provide that kind of care in Illinois, and we support people who do provide that care, as we support all of our health care professionals.
And I think it’s frankly despicable that there are states that are banning the kind of health care that’s needed for these kids. Anybody who knows a family that has a trans child knows that there are already major challenges that you’re going through. You need to healthcare professionals that are supportive. Some of it is mental health support, some of it is physical health support, but all of it ought to be about affirming and lifting up these children.

Another overreach by Missouri, this time in response to incidents of true malpractice in transgender care within their state.
There is a middle ground here somewhere that neither side seems interesting in reaching.

What’s the middle ground between offering life saving healthcare to patients and making that care illegal?

I don’t see any middle ground at all City Zen, but then I’m not looking to sell out any minority groups so the craziest quartile of the country can claim a win and go home (they’re never going home). This is like a lot of issues, in which one side is right and one is wrong but media can’t help itself but framing the goal as being some kind of imaginary middle ground between these positions.
Anyway here’s the follow up on the piece you posted:

LBJ bet me to it. The sworn affidavit seems to have vanished…along with Jamie Reed’s press availability.

The governor is on the right side.
Well said.

Let’s pretend, **purely** as a hypothetical for the sake of discussion, that gender nonconformity or transgenderism is an “illness” as the transphobic community likes to characterize it.
How do they know that it’s a mental illness and not a physical illness? How do they know that a transwoman, for example, is a mentally disordered man and not a physically disordered woman?
Even if gender were immutable from birth, why must it be a person’s physical characteristics that define it? Why must that “immutable” gender be based on what is apparent to an outside observer instead of what is apparent to the person whose body that is?
“But the question of whether who we are is defined more by our mind or by our physical form is too big a can of worms for me,” they protest. “Basing gender on what is apparent is neat and tidy and gender-affirming care makes me uncomfortable!”
To them I reply, “I promise you that a person experiencing gender dysphoria is more uncomfortable than you are.”
