* Without going into too many details, I wasn’t feeling well during my trip home Saturday, and then started getting more symptoms which looked like this new COVID variant. I tested yesterday, but I was negative. Hooray, but I am still sick. I’m going back to bed and will test again later.
Meanwhile, Isabel has helm.
* The Question: How was your break?

It was shorter this year. I like it when Christmas falls on a Wednesday or Thursday. Then I get about two full weeks off. Christmas/NY on Monday, it felt like I only got one week for break. Not enough.

Christmas was derailed because of a COVID scare, but everyone ended up staying healthy and we had a lovely time anyway. Luckily, our family members have received every booster. Sorry to hear you feel rotten, Rich.

Got a new job last year. Worked Christmas Eve and Christmas day: 16 hours of work, 32 hours of pay. Since my shorty is out of state completing a master’s, definitely too good a deal to pass up (banned punctuation).
Went to Indy on the 27th to see one of my brothers during his road trip. Got a call on the 31st: 4 of the 6 people in his family had covid. No covid symptoms yet, so cautiously optimistic?
Sorry you’re not feeling well, Rich. How’s Oscar doing?

Was great. Got our drafts to LRB on December 18th and pretty much unplugged until last week. Really fortunate to have a CEO that closes the office the week between Christmas and New Years.

Sorry to hear that, Rich. Take good care of yourself.
My break continues somewhat (it’s a teacher thing). Otherwise, I have been making some good trouble here in West Central Illinois. I think I even made some nation ears perk up.

I had 11 consecutive days off and got to fish 8 of them so my break was awesome.

My lady and I, after ducking it for three and one-half years, took our turn with covid. All get togethers and outings cancelled. OK now. Vaxes all up to date.

Incredibly relaxing. I had two weeks off and going back into the office is weird because there are these other humans around. One daughter ended up with mono, so we stayed back from the travel to Kansas and just hung out.

Everyone I know seems to have gotten sick, or has had one or more of their immediate family sick over the past three weeks. Whether covid or a bad flu, everyone got hammered. Just getting over mine myself.

Same thing happened to me. On the way home I noticed a slight cough, and then it hit me like a ton of bricks the next day. I’ve barely left my bed for a week. I was vaccinated and am testing negative, so not sure what is going on.

Covid, flu and strep all raced through our house between December 15th and December 29th, so yeah, could’ve been better.
Hang in there Rich

Nothing so exotic here. Visited toddler granddaughter … who gave me a sinus infection that went into bronchitis. Her older brother did the same thing 2 Christmases ago. And, both times, COVID test came back negative. Just garden variety toddler germs.

I tested negative right before the break. I had been positive (and indeed sick a couple weeks before. I do not know if I had the new variant.) I enjoyed the break. I spent it doing as little as possible, cooking good food, eating it, making and drinking gallons of glühwein, reading (German & Swedish) and playing with my dog.
It was a good recovery time.

We had all 4 of the “kids” together for a couple of days - the first time in 2 1/2 years, so it was wonderful. Feel better, Rich.

Well we take down the tree after Epiphany. But I wish the renters across the street could take down their Plastic Halloween pumpkins already.

We got sick earlier in December and it really lingered. Other family members had varying degrees of illness as well. Some had COVID but seems like we all had similar symptoms. Luckily, we were all healthy by Christmas and able to get together.
The time off work was needed and enjoyed.

Happy New Year! Please keep testing, mine didn’t turn positive until Day 5 and it’s been a 12 day struggle.

It was a COVID Christmas for hubby and me. Ugh

Hope you feel better soon.
Our holidays were great. They took up a beautiful calm and healthy period between having RSV (with symptoms almost identical to when I’d had Covid) and falling down the porch stairs.

I think flu is worse than covid right now, although Cook County is up to medium risk for covid transmission again after a year of low risk. Only twelve percent of people got the current vaccine so I guess the uptick was to be expected.
