Some good, old-school corruption.

If she didn’t want to answer yes or no, couldn’t she have said we are considering our options like other pols do lol?
Comment by Big Dipper Monday, Mar 11, 24 @ 11:04 am
The non answer answer stuff has become absurd.
Comment by JS Mill Monday, Mar 11, 24 @ 11:06 am
Melissa could’ve made things easier on Chris by asking “Which one? The prayer service on office time? Personal errands? The mortgage to my husband’s friend?”

My advice to politicians is when you’re asked a (fair) yes-or-no question, the first word of your answer has to be yes or no; then you can explain further. Voters perceive this as a strong answer. Evading a yes-or-no question is perceived poorly by voters.
Reporters tolerate more b.s. from politicians than voters do.

This is the kind of answer that a public relations consultant or lawyer would train her to say, so that there’s nothing on the record in the response that can be pointed to in court. To the average voter it smells funny.

Do Treasurer Conyers-Ervin and Mayor Tiffany Henyard of Dolton operate from the same playbook?
Comment by Rudy’s teeth Monday, Mar 11, 24 @ 11:46 am
That’s right up there with Rod being asked about a $1500 wedding gift.

This is why people distrust politicians. This, and the actual corrupt stuff they do.

===This is the kind of answer that a public relations consultant or lawyer would train her to say,===
No decent PR person would tell her to say that. A lawyer would, tho.

Does this new ethics handbook specifically inform employees to ignore illegal and unethical instructions from the Treasurer when she tells them to run her personal errands on their city paid time, and explicitly state they are not expected to work for the person holding the office unpaid while performing personal services?
It doesn’t seem like the employees had the ethics problem in this case, it seems like the public office holder did — and then fired people for complaining about it.
But it least we’re very clear on the fact she thinks that something that occurred 4 years ago should have no bearing on someone’s next election for public office.
I get the motive, though, she doesn’t really have the kind of resume that excites people in the private sector.

It’s too bad because Danny Davis needs to be replaced. There was no way I could vote for her, however, even before this interview. I really doubt the two employees now gone were lying. All staff will probably have to take more nonsense ethics trainings when its the big boss who is the main one that needs it.
Davis will win again and this will follow the Treasurer for the rest of her career.

The only difference between her non-answer, a non-answer from Tiffany Henyard and a non-answer from Brandon Johnson is that Mayor Johnson prefaces it with either “I got you” or “Again, I have been clear from the very beginning”.
Comment by Old IL Dude Monday, Mar 11, 24 @ 2:18 pm
Oh, and Brandon Johnson might throw in a quote from Tupac or Grandmaster Flash.
Comment by Old IL Dude Monday, Mar 11, 24 @ 2:19 pm
First, let me say this about that…I can’t answer Yes and I won’t answer No…because I’m lying through my teeth?
Comment by Dotnonymous x Monday, Mar 11, 24 @ 2:27 pm
Treasurer Conyers-Ervin clearly answered the question… clear as the old Sangamon River…after a gully washer.

The Ervin’s are the posterchil
Comment by Loop Lady Monday, Mar 11, 24 @ 3:14 pm
The Ervin’s represent all that is grossly corrupt in Cook County government.
Shame on all the pols that came out to endorse Davis for yet another term in Congrest.
Comment by Loop Lady Monday, Mar 11, 24 @ 3:17 pm
Sorry…the poster children for all that is corrupt in Cook County Government.
Shame on the pols that turned out to endorse Rep Davis for yet another term.
His tenure has been two terms too long.
This district is due for a new representative that cars about more than the position.

I wont disagree but then who will you support?

My question is this: why was the interview held in what looks like a supply closet or mail room?
Comment by Colin O'Scopy Monday, Mar 11, 24 @ 4:59 pm
If you’re going to lie anyway why not just say yes?
Comment by Excitable Boy Monday, Mar 11, 24 @ 7:26 pm
“Do Treasurer Conyers-Ervin and Mayor Tiffany Henyard of Dolton operate from the same playbook?”
No no no nooooooo.
As evasive as that was Henyard makes that look straightforward.
Comment by btowntruth from forgottonia Monday, Mar 11, 24 @ 8:01 pm
This was great- I’ve answered your question….no you haven’t…..I’ve answered your question. Literally her and Tiffany Henyard had the same response in the exact same way, that is crazy.
Agreed a real PR person would’ve had this locked down with answers already done and rehearsed. The lawyer is the one who coached those answers.

I tried to see the video but it was taken down. More research quickly got me to the video that shows the CTU backing her though. So there’s that… https://youtu.be/yomHwAP_wyo?si=0hFtHvsKBbaWWE46
