Question of the day

Posted in:

* On Saturday, we watched part of Rep. Chris Miller’s (R-No Relation) floor remarks. During those remarks, he did this

* Rep. Travis Weaver recited a poem he wrote during a break in the action on Saturday. The poem mentioned me at the end. Click here for that. During that poem (I’ll post the transcript in comments), Weaver partially quoted Rep. Miller

* Sen. Michael Hastings then got into the act while debating one of his bills. Click here to watch a clip. And then he gave kind of a Sinatra twist to the Rep. Miller dings

* The Question: Who dinged it best? Take the poll and then explain your answer in comments, please.

  1. Ah yes, the dignified Upper House of the General Assembly.

  2. Illinois Politics: It’s Complicated
By Travis Weaver and Mark Revis.

Eggs, milk, bread are more expensive than they’ve ever been.
Rent, gasoline toothpaste too, can’t you see what government can do?

People and businesses head south to places they can grow.
Leaving us all behind shivering in the snow.

As the budget grows paying our taxes feels like an annual violation.
The clear solution? Have DCEO collect demographic information.

Along with higher costs, communities deal with more crime.
Just imagine what Illinois could be with Caleb Williams in his prime.

Good ideas are sidelined like tax relief for families and businesses too…
But what takes priority a ban on exotic cats, even the kangaroo?

It’s an honor to serve in this chamber, we all have something we can bring.
Apparently we even have somebody who’s an expert at declaring “DING DING DING DING!”

So let’s unify on a bill, heck lets unify on seven.
Let’s all team up and pass a first bill for Kevin.

And to Lance, Kelly, Randy, Cyril, Jen, Mary and Dan. You’ll be greatly missed.
We hope you remember us well with a cold drink in your hand.

So with that I come to a close on this time filler.
But let’s keep this between us. No need to share with Rich Miller.

  3. Miller had some serious spunk with his digs!

    Comment by J Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 12:09 pm

  4. ===some serious spunk===

Reminds me of what Lou Grant said about spunk /s

  5. Miller: He put his entire heart, mind and soul into his Ding, Ding.

    Comment by In_The_Middle Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 12:16 pm

  6. Rep, Miller. He is a genuine ding-a-ling.

Comment by Bigtwich Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 12:17 pm

  7. =People and businesses head south to places they can grow.=

Rivian, Weathertech, and Google (to name a few) would like a word.

Comment by JS Mill Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 12:30 pm

  8. Miller. Because when you get old you’ll know this to always be true, the original was best

Comment by Lurker Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 12:38 pm

  9. Miller has the best sound bite. So I voted Miller. But the subtle mocking tone of Hastings was most entertaining.

Comment by Ducky LaMoore Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 12:50 pm

  10. Miller, because MAGA has the best ding dings.

Comment by Inverted Pyramid Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 12:56 pm

  11. Miller. As Lurker notes, the original artist deserves credit.

===Eggs, milk, bread are more expensive than they’ve ever been.
Rent, gasoline toothpaste too, can’t you see what government can do?===

How is the government responsible for inflation? I thought Republicans understood the market better than this. Weaver ain’t much of a poet and I think we all know it.

    Comment by 47th Ward Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 12:59 pm

  12. Sen. Michael Hastings is my winner, it had some flow.

Comment by OneMan Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 1:01 pm

Comment by family matters Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 1:10 pm

  15. Some of you can no longer say “I never voted for Chris Miller” without lying. Consider that as you celebrate his ding-a-linging.

Comment by Candy Dogood Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 1:17 pm

  16. Perfect examples of why this is called the silly season. (better than the overtime from hell)
I blame all for planting the song “My Ding a Ling” in my head.
I also give style points to Marcus Evans for the way he says “passed” when he’s the chair.

Comment by DCC Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 1:18 pm

  17. “that poem is terrible”

  18. ===Some of you can no longer say “I never voted for Chris Miller” without lying===

I already texted him to let him know that this was the first and likely the last time I’ll ever vote for him lol

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 1:31 pm

  19. Rep. Miller sounds like he caught a body part in the car door.
Rep. Weaver’s dings could work on a CTA train. But, Rep. Hastings has the most melodic dings of all.

    Comment by Rudy’s teeth Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 1:54 pm

  20. Three percent of me voted for Chris Miller

Comment by Vote Quimby Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 2:27 pm

  21. Hastings, there seemed to be some sarcasm in his voice.

Comment by Huh? Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 2:35 pm

  22. I am aware what doggerel is that doesn’t automatically make the contents or delivery of said doggerel any good.

  23. None of these compare to the singular “Ding” exclaimed by Rep. Will Davis before a vote whenever he would preside over the makeshift chamber at BOS Center during the pandemic lockdown!

Comment by Nobody That Nobody Sent Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 3:06 pm

  24. Hastings. Subtle, depth, Shakespeare couldn’t have said it better.

Comment by Sir Reel Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 3:16 pm

  25. Senator Hastings should be embarassed to leave his house in the morning much less engage in funny banter on the floor of the Senate. He is a disgrace. He should wear a bag over his head.

Comment by DougChicago Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 5:48 pm

  26. Nothing beats the original!

Comment by hmmm Tuesday, May 28, 24 @ 7:11 pm

  27. ===Some of you can no longer say “I never voted for Chris Miller” without lying. Consider that as you celebrate his ding-a-linging.===

My heart sank a little when I realized you are correct, Candy. But I felt better after Rich’s post @1:31.
