* Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson sat down with the Sun-Times editorial board…
Also during Monday’s board meeting, Johnson said the CTA is “moving in the right direction” under embattled President Dorval Carter Jr. The mayor refused to discuss Carter’s long-term future, but argued it is “not unheard of” for Carter to be targeted by critics because he is African-American, as Carter suggested to a Council committee.

“Johnson said the CTA is ‘moving in the right direction’”
Johnson was looking at a ghost CTA.

‘Mayor’s administration doing a good job, says Mayor.’

He said this the same day a CTA bus rammed into five cars and a building. I waited 20 minutes for a Red Line train at 5pm yesterday. It arrived packed to the gills. Had to wait for another. At rush hour.
And the stations are dirty and they stink. And the CTA is about to go broke along with the rest of the RTA. Not saying it’s all Carter’s fault, but c’mon man, he’s in charge.
If this is the right direction, I’d hate to see what happens in the wrong direction.

A solid pun by Mayor Photo Op.

If your City Hall can keep a public controversy going as long as possible instead of urging the controversial appointee to take a very well paid honorable retirement you gotta’ do it?

His statement is insane. His black man comment is inane. He needs to ride the service for a week and enjoy the sights and smells and then decide who needs to be fired.

“Targeted by critics because [Carter] is African-American”. Wow. So there’s no black critics of Carter and the CTA (who are more likely to use a dysfunctional CTA)?? Johnson just showed how incompetent he is when handling any criticism.

I’d like to invite Mayor Johnson, President Carter, and President Warren to ride the CTA Blue Line from Forest Park > UIC/Halsted.
It is going in the right direction…roughly east towards downtown.
From Forest Park to Kedzie/Homan they could walk on the shoulder of the Ike and travel just about as fast as the train.

Well, at least we know Dorval Carter would survive a nuclear war.

=== Johnson said the CTA is ‘moving in the right direction ===
Out of control buses injuring a dozen people, destroying cars and buildings is moving in the right direction?

As a regular rider of the CTA Blue Line, I can find evidence every single ride contradicting Mayor Johnson’s sunny assessment.

News to me that the CTA is moving at all.
This is an incredibly out of touch Mayor

Great! Let’s agree to have the Chicago Transit Authority handle all of the shuttle bus service for the Democrat National Convention rather than using charter buses. That will prove Mayor Johnson is one hundred percent correct.

If only the CTA was actually moving.

I seriously don’t understand this level of political incompetence. Back the day, Richie Daley would “leak” it to reporters that he had taken a member of his administration to the woodshed. Nobody lost a job, but everybody seemed satisfied that the mayor understood the problem.

Y’know folks, this incident is still under investigation. We don’t know what happened. Was the bus cut off by an errant driver? Did the bus driver suffer a medical emergency? The CFD spokesman said, “We have no idea how it occurred.” Perhaps all of you who think you know what caused it should call CFD and clue them in.

The mayor is going to need another $30k in “makeup” to mask this fib
Comment by pragmatist Tuesday, Jun 11, 24 @ 4:23 pm
My mayor spoke like someone who does not use public transit. That dodge might work on something arcane, but real, everyday people use the CTA daily and if they are 30 years old or older, they know exactly how bad it is now. I saw him at an event today. Man his skin looked flawless.

I’ve been riding the CTA on my own since I was 12. That was the early ‘80s. Its never been worse.
