Congratulations to RFK Jr. Staff and volunteers in gathering over 60,000 signatures to get on the ballot in Illinois.
That represents an awful lot of hard work on their part.

Alton residents are up in arms about Altonworks treatment of their beloved Jacobi Arts Center. John Simmons the self styled financial savior of Alton ( whose Altonworks and other shell companies own the majority of Alton’s downtown buildings ) made the Jacobi Arts and Innovation District the centerpiece of his vision for Alton. Last week the board of Jacobi Arts Center received word that they have to vacate for renovation in August. When they return they are being offered 20% of their current footprint for 3 times the cost.
Residents are furious in that it betrays Simmonds true intentions all along, to seize a valuable property and squeeze profit. They point to the obvious lies on Alton works website about what would happen. Now residents fear gentrification and empty expensive buildings being shut out of business opportunities.
I’m hoping state government will pull its grants and city government will stop letting them use TIFF money to shut locals out. This Saturday Alton hosted a flashy expensive festivals and displaced our vibrant farmers market only to keep the parking lot that the market was on empty all day.
It’s the perfect image of what’s happening in Alton. Big money coming in to squeeze profit out of a community in the process stiffling the local arts, businesses and markets.
Gentrification

Storm very noisy. At least we won’t have to water today.

I love sleeping during noisy thunderstorms, but I swear to god they make it so hard for me to wake up. Just white noise and dark skies trick my brain into wanting to stay in bed. It is only through great struggle that I made it to my desk this morning.

Seconding the dragging, low energy morning due to the storm. Speaking of nature, it seems as if the Cicadas have fallen silent for the most part around here.

We are puttin’ away hats, gloves, shovels and snowblowers not that the winter sports season has ended.

Much needed rain is approaching BloNo. I hope it arrives rather than skirts on by heading east.

Congrats to the Florida Panthers for staving off the worst collapse in NHL history by defeating the Oilers in Game Seven last night. Well-deserved win on their part to get their first championship in franchise history.
Too bad the game couldn’t have gone to overtime so I wouldn’t have been able to see the Cubs blow yet another game, though.

The Cubs seem just as bad as the Sox, blowing leads and losing. Another bad summer of baseball.

Came here to mention that Volkswagen/Rivian deal. Gondolas on the House for the BloNo community!
I can’t help but smile, remembering just how skeptical and cynical Bruce Rauner was when the state announced a buyer for the closed Mitsubishi plant.
