It might be prudent for CMS to fix the keycard turnstyles at the Michael A. Bilandic(MABB) before the DNC arrives in August. Since they estimate about 10,000 protesters in Chicago and since the MABB Houses The Illinois Supreme Court, All four Leglislative Leaders, Various Staff and a Daycare center. The turnstyles have not operated properly for over 2 years and rumor has it that it is not in CMS budget. SAFETY ISSUE

Rivian getting a huge cash infusion from Volkswagen, in addition to their already existing Amazon dough, is pretty darned good news for Bloomington-Normal.
Say whatever you want about the business acumen of the Rivian folks, they know how to negotiate a deal.

The pro-corruption Roberts court strikes again with the Snyder v. U.S. opinion
Bribes for official acts are A-OK if they are just a “token of appreciation.”
Will Burke see even a day behind bars?

SNYDER
“The question in this case is whether §666 also makes it a crime for state and local officials to accept gratuities—for example, gift cards, lunches, plaques, books, framed photos, or the like—that may be given as a token of appreciation after the official act. The answer is no. State and local governments often regulate the gifts that state and local officials may accept. Section 666 does not supplement those state and local rules by subjecting 19 million state and local officials to up to 10 years in federal prison for accepting even commonplace gratuities. Rather, §666 leaves it to state and local governments to regulate gratuities to state and local officials”

I look forward to Illinois returning to a world where no one ever gets convicted of corruption because the feds get neutered and state level prosecutions never occur because everyone is afraid to bite the hand that feeds them.

Hyperbole much?

Mr.JM –
the bar has been raised they have to prove a state of mind and virtual quid pro quo to prevail
and their argument is it went unsaid because everyone knew what was implied.
I think he walks

Gym was fuller than usual this morning. Reading the frustration from Harmon about transit; why isn’t Chicago and the suburban area looking more at what the Swiss have accomplished? Broad reliance between trams, buses, and trains, which transfer not only from suburb to city center but suburb to suburb, which is how a growing number of Americans commute anyway.

No real rain here in West Central Illinois yesterday, despite threats coming from Iowa skies.
I talked with a farmer a little bit ago who is convinced wind farms influence steering patterns, such that rain tends to go around, rather than through, areas with wind farms. Interesting thesis.
