  1. Draft starts tonight for the NHL, with the Hawks picking 2nd and 18th overall tonight. A lot of hope for the future, with most thinking that Chicago will take either the Russian forward Demidov or the Michigan State defenseman Levshunov. Most seem to want Demidov to provide Bedard a scoring partner, but a consensus top D-man in the guise of Levshunov is darn attractive, too.

  2. Keepin’ it Illinois-specific, may last night send a message to Dick Durbin, Danny Davis, and Jan Schawkowsky that it is time to get off the public stage.

  3. After last night, I have to wonder if Pritzker’s focus might be shifting a bit wider than Illinois politics.

  5. NPR Illinois had an interesting story about the post WW II Lustron all steel homes. There was an Illinois tie-in to those homes as the company founder, Carl Strandlund, had ties to Chicago. And quite a few of the surviving homes were built in the suburban Chicago area.

  6. @TJ - I’ve come around to wanting them to pick Levshunov. I think he stays at MSU for another year, and that will help the Hawks eventually stack these contracts. I think the 18 pick is as intriguing as the 2 pick will be.

I’m a hopeful Hawks fan, but watching the Stanley Cup playoffs its also very evident just how far they have to come to even be in the playoff picture.

  8. From the Morning Briefing==‘We should have a sense of urgency’ as farm drainage tile drives nutrient pollution.==

I have lived for decades surrounding by farm fields on a property that has been here for well over 100 years. A new farmer came in bulldozed and retiled everything a few years ago. We have seen an alarming drop in biodiversity around us as the vernal wetlands on our property are gone too. It’s heartbreaking.

  10. I read “Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker” in more national publications today than I thought possible. After last night’s performance, I’m not surprised. It will be interesting to see his response over the next few weeks.
