The Illinois Department of Corrections has specific rules that prohibit employees from disclosing information related to offender’s records.
In response to a post from April [2019], correctional officer Thomas Angeli, who goes by Tommy Angeli on Facebook, commented about transgender woman Janiah Monroe, who had recently been transferred to a women’s facility. “Saw her in healthcare when she first came in…dude looks nothing like a girl..a tall n skinny guy,” Angeli wrote. Later the officer expressed expectations that the inmate would have “something feminine” by way of sexual organs, but did not.

I suspect unless it is like really obscene, you can’t make a hiring decision for a job like that based on a tattoo…
That being said, it isn’t a great look.

I knew his name sounded familiar. His FB page says he also works/worked at Fit Club in Springfield. I used to know some of his Fit Club musclehead friends. Hopefully they don’t support his hateful beliefs but I kinda doubt it.

This might speak more to the prescriptive hiring process than saying anyone missed something. Unless it’s written in the job requirements (separate from job description) or in interview policy guidelines, then the HR people can’t exclude from consideration.

Wait a minute.
His charge is for not having a valid FOID card?
I know one of the requirements of being a correctional officer in many Illinois counties(Sangamon, Will, etc), is possessing a valid FOID card. Is that not the case in Logan County or for this position, or did his FOID coincidentally expire at almost the exact same time he was placed on leave?
Am I missing something? Maybe he’s just a Correctional Center facility employee, and not an officer? As in he’s the cook or something? Because this looks even worse if he was actually a corrections officer.
I’d welcome anyone who can correct my confusion or what I’m not understanding about his employment and lack of a FOID card.
