Pritzker responds to Trump calling him a ‘loser’

Posted in:

* Center Square…

Former President Donald Trump used part of his conversation with Tesla founder Elon Musk on Monday night to criticize Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker as a “real loser.” […]

During a conversation with Musk on X, Trump was discussing his plan to close the U.S. Department of Education if he’s elected, and said some states will do well managing their own education, but not Illinois.

“I have so many friends that are in those states, even if they’re Democrats, I hate to mention certain states, but Illinois is badly run with Pritzker,” Trump said. “He’s a real loser.” […]

Musk, who has recently moved businesses out of California, said states with poor management at the top are seeing people flee for other states at an increased rate.

“Some of these governors are doing so badly, I mean they’ve got so many people moving out of their state they should get U-Haul salesman of the year award,” Musk said.

Trump piled on, and pointed to Illinois, but said it’s not the residents’ fault. .

“You can’t penalize people that loan money to the state when you have incompetent people like a Pritzker, look the family didn’t want him in the family business and then he ends up being governor of Illinois,” Trump said. “What, is he going to be a great governor?”

* Gov. Pritzker was asked about Trump’s comments at the Illinois State Fair today…

Well, let’s see. Donald Trump was a loser in 2020, he was a loser in 2022 when he tried to endorse a whole bunch of people for office, he’s going to lose again in 2024. As I recall, I won by 16 points in my first election, by 12 and a half points in my second election. We’re gonna have Kamala Harris winning this race all over the country. We know who the winners are, and Donald Trump is the loser.

* In other comments…

Reporter: There’s been a lot of talk about morals today. Can you talk about morals and Republicans? Because they’ll try to say the same thing when they’re here tomorrow.

Pritzker: Well, they have a 34-time convicted fraudster at the head of their ticket. So really, they have no business talking about morals. They want to tear down law enforcement by, frankly, ripping apart the FBI, the Secret Service and so on. They’re the ones who are against public safety. We’re the ones who are standing up for American values, for American’s economic situation, making sure that we’re lifting up workers by giving them a raise and lowering costs for health care and everything else that people have to worry about at the kitchen table.

  1. Not sure why Gov. Pritzker took the bait. Trump thrives on earned media. The interview itself was largely an unmitigated disaster, but the more people talk about how bad it was, the more earned media Trump gets.

    Should have hit him with the Mariah Carey classic, “I don’t know her” and move on.

  3. JB let him off easy. Could have socked him with the laundry list of his failed businesses, how his plane can’t go where he wants because it will be seized for unpaid bills… his pretend wealth and not being a real billionaire, his failing media company, his low rally attendance and dropping poll numbers…

    JB doesn’t like punching down, though.

  4. I always thought President Obama was the luckiest politician in his rise to the presidency but Harris is giving him a run for that title
    If I was a Democrat all I would do is keep recording and replaying Trumps nonsense. I truly believe he has lost any sanity he had left. The more he talks the more people remember he is not even rational. And once again the Governor response correctly. Would have been fun if the Governor was VP he would have driven Trump even nuttier

  5. ===“He’s a real loser.”===

    With that lisp Trump was sporting, it sounded more like “loosher” on the webcast.

    I think the past eight years have shown that the “they go low, we go high” approach was a mistake. Trump has shown us that there are very few rules and norms that matter; better to proceed accordingly.

  10. Desperate Donald punches the air with nonsense. JB, on the other hand, picks off Trump like the piece that he is.

  11. Trump lost in 2020 and is likely to lose in 2024. Just because he doesn’t accept reality doesn’t mean he’s not the loser.

    Comment by Big Dipper Wednesday, Aug 14, 24 @ 2:43 pm

  12. Generally, you do not respond to an attack with the same attack.

    So, as much as I like calling Trump a “loser,” I think you have to switch gears slightly.

    “Democrats stand up to bullies. Whether it’s insurance companies bullying patients, employers bullying workers, racists bullying their fellow Americans, or dictators bullying their neighbors. And Donald Trump is your garden variety, every day bully.

    What I have learned about bullies is that inside every tough guy is a little child whose dad didn’t show him much love or was abusive, and that their bullying infects their relationships with the people they work with and their families. So while Trump’s policies and his actions might anger me, I know they are coming from a weak, pitiful man and part of me feels sorry for the whole family.”

    Calling Trump a Loser is great, he hates it and it really undermines his brand, but calling him Weak is even better IMHO.

  13. Trump has a history of calling people losers, so to have someone do the same to him must really, really sting. JB doesn’t have the verbal counter-punching skills of Susanna Mendoza, but he is pretty good.

  14. Trump has always sounded like the dull kid on the playground.

    The fact that he has been able to attract millions proves there truly is a sucker born every minute.

  15. ====“He’s a real loser.”====

    It is like the Self Own is the maga primary business. I mean, they found something they are good at for sure.

    Alternative JB response…”tell me more about the trump bankruptcies”.

  16. Anyone who would commute the prison sentence of Rod Blagojevich should probably keep their mouth shut about Illinois governors.

    Comment by Ducky LaMoore Wednesday, Aug 14, 24 @ 3:47 pm

  17. I will be so so so happy when the childish name calling of the Trump era ends. JB did what he had to but clearly pulled his punches. But all of this is so beneath our public discourse and such bad role modeling for our kids.

  18. ==Not sure why Gov. Pritzker took the bait==

    Agree. He should have just said “no comment” and took the high road… but that’s politics in 2024.

    Comment by Just a Random Guy Wednesday, Aug 14, 24 @ 4:23 pm

  19. It is perfectly fine and even necessary to mention Trump’s flaws and failures, especially when you can do so with brevity like these comments. When you get afraid to talk about him, then you are in trouble.

    Comment by Jibba Wednesday, Aug 14, 24 @ 4:52 pm

  20. - He should have just said “no comment” and took the high road… -

    Nonsense. When a loudmouth like Trump takes a shot at you you hit him right back, harder. If anything JB went too easy on him.
