  1. Not Illinois-specific, but major news rocking the hockey world that Columbus Blue Jacket (former Calgary Flame) Johnny Gaudreau and his brother were killed by a motorist in New Jersey. Sounding like the entire tragedy stemmed from the driver wanting to pass and figuring that the cyclists, who had the right of way, should’ve jumped out his way.

Be aware of cyclists on the road. A driver being impatient and not wanting to wait a few seconds killed two brothers the weekend of their sister’s wedding.

  2. Around here, it appears the Labor Day weekend started a couple days ago.

  3. Colchester, IL annual Labor Day Weekend Celebration is always a fun, small town America event - especially the talent show.

But college football, men’s and women’s soccer begin in earnest too. So little time, so much to do.

  5. “Be aware of cyclists on the road.”

Absolutely. And take a moment before driving to relax and not get all worked up to make terrible decisions in haste.

  6. Fell asleep before the Illini game was over and was happy to wake up to discover they held on for the shutout vs. EIU.

Very saddened to soon after hear the news about Johnny Gaudreau though. That poor family.

  7. And the driver has been charged with driving under the influence and having an open container in the vehicle.

Holy cow man, throw the book at him.

  8. Proft and Kass had an on air grievance fest. Proft is still mad about being removed from Envision Unlimited.

  12. Terrible news about “Johnny Hockey” and his brother. They were to be groomsmen in their sisters wedding this evening.

To the weekend? Loved the return of college football last night and tonight begins another season of High School Football. Looking forward to another great year of Friday Night Lights.

  13. Was in a suite for the Illini game.

The offense didn’t impress me despite the lopsided score, but the big plays made by the defense (4 takeaways) has me cautiously optimistic.

  15. re that paralympian list, I knew Sarah Adam was from Naperville and she’s playing on a team with men, but I did not know that there are others from Illinois on the team with her. it is a sport known as “murderball” and it is worth the watch.

  16. TJ,
Unfortunately, they probably won’t. I was so disappointed in the final sentence given to the woman that hit those two construction workers while she was speeding and looking at snapchat on her phone.
She wound up with 90 days in jail. I guess a month and a half for each life.
