* Undermining a thin-skinned mayor on a problem that just about everybody agrees needs to be fixed and while the aforementioned mayor is trying to lure the Olympics to town is certain to get the local media in a tizzy. Daley did his best to keep the dispute on the down-low Saturday, but the very last line in this excerpt tells the whole story…
Mayor Richard Daley said Saturday he isn’t mad at Gov. Rod Blagojevich for offering the Illinois State Police to help him with Chicago’s “out of control” crime problem.
But the mayor, in his first public comments since the governor offered the law enforcement assistance before consulting Daley, did suggest that people “should be careful” in their public comments.
“No, I’m not mad at the governor. There’s so many good things. You can never get mad at anyone because when you get mad it changes you. You get disappointed in people and these are good things that we bring out,” Daley told reporters. “So if I were ever to get mad at anyone I’d just get disappointed because many times what you say can have a huge effect on an issue. You should be careful about what you say at all times.” […]
“No, I’m not mad at him. I’m not upset with him,” Daley said. “He said it. He has to live with those words.”
And, if history is any guide, it may not be a pleasant life.
Also, I”m kinda wondering if anyone followed up and asked Daley if he’s “disappointed” with the governor.

Well, somebody is looking to run for statewide office. I wonder how the rest of the state will feel about Birkett’s handling of those anti-war protester’s right to free speech. This should be interesting.

Undercover, you mean the protestors waving flags over I355 distracting drivers and reportedly dropping things from the overpass, right?
Those protestors?

Revenge is a dish best served cold.
Or as the mayor might say, “Revenge is like cold cuts. Everybody knows that. One day, he’ll have to eat his words with his cold cuts.”
Seriously, what’s the prognosis for an Illinois Dem with both Daley and Madigan as enemies? No room for slipups. Add to that Patrick Fitzgerald, and Rod’s a sinking ship in the middle of the Irish Triangle.

Blago is so out of control goofy now a days embarrassing Daley doesn’t even register on his Blagoof-a-meter. His mind has moved on to bigger issues. Maybe they will announce Blago’s blog to offset the beating he gets here.

its almost like govering by press release is not the most effective leadership model. It would have been crazy for the Gov to call and talk to the Mayor and CHicago PD to see what they wanted/needed, come up with a join plan, and release that.
Ten again, the gov was busy implementing a 14 mill job program to give clout heavy kids up minimium wage jobs in Chicago. Good thing he cut that cease fire budget by 9 million to get rid of job held by adults and others seeking to make a living reducing violence in the City.

Also, I”m kinda wondering if anyone followed up and asked Daley if he’s “disappointed” with the governor. Is this a diplomatic was to say our Governor SUCKS?

A capital bill and increased efforts to crack down on crime would have been really bad for Chicago…

First the Daily Show, now the Daley Show.

I wonder if Daley offered a cryptic message to the governor. And I wonder if the governor was able to recieve it. Or if he even cares.

Birkett needs to worry about his son (marijuana bust) and not the Chicago PD.

==people “should be careful” in their public comments==
This is governor serving his seventh year in office. He has to be old to be careful in his public comments? This entire episode shouldn’t be about how Blagojevich is factually wrong, but how he could ever say such a stupid thing.

Vanilla, So true. And his PR shenanigans have gotten more and more shameless over the years. The guy hasn’t learned a thing.

The state loves to announce websites — and then announce the websites in a splashy PR piece.
Those folks over at BCCS (or whatever it’s called) *love* their websites. My favorite was the anti-violence in video games website from several years ago. The BCCS folks roll out the HTML templates (they love their templates more than they love websites in general), cobble it together, and make like it’s forward-leaning policy.

A typical daily press pop with the Guv:
Good afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen: I’m bringing the National Guard to the Capital, I mean Chicago… Is that a blue footed booby?..
I need to get a capital bill… I just love little children in front of me…Isn’t it hot today?…I’m moving Lake Michigan to Vandalia to create 3 jobs…Would you like a job in Chicago at my bunk,,er my office? Just got my hair cut…
I need healthcare for all Illinois Families… Gas prices are too high… and so on and so on and so on.
Short Attention Span Theater.

Frankly, I don’t understand it Illinois Nat’l Gaurd Units have now spent the better part of a decade being deployed, for years at a time, in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan. They are extremely well trained and experienced at urban conflicts. Chicago can’t be worse then Baghdad or Kabul. It would look horible on Fox/CNN but they are up to the job. Heck they could stay in suburban hotels. It beats flying over rual Illinois looking for pot fields with local cops and Ill. State Police.

Did the Gov volunteer the Mayor’s active duty son to lead the charge too?
Comment by Anon Monday, Jul 21, 08 @ 5:59 pm
Blago is now, officially, done for good. He will likely have the Mayor’s actively opposed to his re-election, and while the Mayor’s organization is not what it once was, it is still substantial and the Mayor’s endorsement or non endorsement still carries a lot of weight with Chicago voters. These are the voters Blago needs to win a primary.
Blago is finished.
Bye Rod.
