Yet another sour note for the White Sox

Posted in:

* Associated Press

Teams increased their success rate on video reviews to 53.7% this season, led by the Boston Red Sox at 67.9%. […]

Major League Baseball said 661 of 1,230 club challenges led to calls being overturned. There were 237 calls confirmed (19.3%) and 332 allowed to stand (27%) — where there was not enough evidence to confirm or overturn.

The New York Yankees (66.7%), Seattle (65.7%) Arizona (64.1%) and Philadelphia (62.3%) also were among the top five in success rate.

Oakland (43.1%), St. Louis (43.6%), Washington (43.8%) Cincinnati (46%), the Los Angeles Angels (46.3%) and the Chicago White Sox (46.2%) were the least successful.

  1. They probably have the sweetest lease deal in the MLB. Don’t think they’ve paid rent in like a decade.

  2. They were really good at making me finally stop caring about them this year, so there’s that…

  3. They also aren’t very good at launching a new channel, either. Not having a carrier deal with the by far largest cable providers in the city, Xfinity and U-Verse, by the time that the Hawks started playing preseason games is such a bone-headed dropping of the ball that even by Reinsdorf standards it’s mesmerizing to see.

But never fear, an extremely spotty OTA option was allegedly available last night.

  6. TJ- agree on the new tv channel situation. What a stinking mess. Was Chris Getz in charge? Pedro Grifol? Tony LaRussa??

  7. The Bears haven’t been too great at challenging calls either. Maybe it’s a Chicago thing?

  9. They’re good at conjuring up ridiculous explanations for how fans supposedly sneak guns into the ballpark.

  10. You guys are all WAY OFF. They are absolutely world class, best ever, at being awful.

Losing! Worst record in the American League from 2011 to present, with an average 162 win-loss record of 70-92.

  12. It is team’s like this that make me think the MLB should have rules against being this bad. The entire premise behind Major League (one of the greatest films of all time) would have been viewed as unrealistic if the team finished as poorly as this White Sox team.

I say, if a team has a losing record for three consecutive seasons, or if the team doesn’t make the playoffs in a decade, then the following year the owner must put the team up for sale. If you cannot fund a functioning team that sometimes offers a viable product, then you don’t deserve the privilege of owning a major sports team.

  15. No snark, Comiskey is a super family friendly ballpark. Easy in to get in and out, affordable enough to justify taking your kids, and the concourses are large enough to generally avoid crushing crowds.

Can’t say that for the other local major league teams.

  17. Late breaking news - “The Chicago White Sox have announced that they are changing the name of the team to ‘Chicago Generals’. The ‘Chicago Generals’ will compete in a new “Tee” ball league composed of recreational teams from the Chicago area. It is expected that the ‘Chicago Generals’ will uphold the finest traditions of they’re basketball counterparts,
the ‘Washington Generals’, as the entire this new phase of their storied history. The owner, Jerry Reinsdorf, is quoted as saying that the team is excited to be playing in the newly formed league with the new format. Mr. Reinsdorf said that the team will have a tough time learning a new format of baseball. However, he expects the team will soon return to a winning season against the tough opposition.”

  18. I like the craft beer choices at the ballpark. Concessions pretty good too. So, I guess they are a top-notch neighborhood bar.

  19. You get 15 seconds to decide whether to challenge. I’m told the Red Sox have a video system that lets their guy get a great look at the play ASAP, and a guy who’s good at sensing whether the chances of being right are high. Tough job since it has to happen so fast.
