Illinois voters have a right to expect proactive enforcement of campaign disclosure laws, but the Board of Elections functions more like a repository for whatever bogus paperwork the candidates choose to submit. That’s inexcusable.
* Lawmakers propose overhaul of federal rail authority
The proposal was drafted by members of the Illinois congressional delegation, in response to the potential purchase by the Canadian National Railway of the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern rail line.
* State fair promises fair price
With gas around $4 a gallon, fair officials hope the $3 daily admission and a list of free activities draw visitors from across the state to the fair, which begins Thursday night in Springfield.
* The story of Lincoln’s last visit to Coles County
According to a study by the Pew Center on the States, one out of every 100 adults in the U.S. is in prison or jail. And because of the racism of the American “justice” system, the numbers are much higher for people of color–if you are an African American man between the ages of 20 and 34, your likelihood of being behind bars today is one in nine.
* The county that does not learn from history is doomed to repeat it, and taxpayers are doomed to repeat payment
So let’s review: The courts find a strip-search policy unconstitutional, the county pays a settlement, then keeps right on strip searching, imagining — hoping — that the finding only applied to female inmates
* U.S. Attorney General Visits Chicago
* Top cop’s pay tops the charts
* Devine to head firm’s litigation section
Cook County State’s Attorney Dick Devine has reached an agreement with Bryan Cave LLP to head up the litigation department of its Chicago office when Devine leaves office in December, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.
* Daley: No Quick Fix for Budget
Budget deficits are not described on the weekend. You don’t make a decision on the weekend on a budget deficit. You really believe that? On the weekend you’re going to solve the budget crisis? You’re going to solve it in two days or a week or a month? No.

Guess this is not part of Kevin’s morning shorts but wanted to see if others are getting political flyers or surveys from the republicans at their door or in their mail. I got two this last week and usually none come this early. One from Darin LaHood which nowhere on it does it tell me he is running republican. Yeah there is website info to go look more but couldn’t help but think he’s hoping for the LaHood name recog. in the Peoria area. His flyer is a bit about him and then seeking help with his campaign, anything from promising a vote, to yard signs, making phone calls ect. It was slipped in door with no knocking.
Then I got a 2008 Legislative Survey with 12 questions from Sen. Dale Risinger. Covers everything from what one feels the leg. top priority should be to my opinion on recall to concealed carry gun law. Are other senators sending out this type of survey also or is it just Sen. Risinger’s way of staying in ‘touch’ with how his dist. feels?

Budget deficits solved during the week? I’ve got me a first-class roundtrip ticket to China for the Olympics this week! You can’t solve a budget deficit sitting on a plane. They’re gonna be showing movies and serving meals. Can’t watch Transformers and solve the budget deficit. Can’t drink pinot grigio and solve the deficit. And children can’t drink pinot, not even during underground private parties at the Children’s Museum, cause it’s illegal.

Time has an interesting article about the crime problem in Chicago.
Nice quote form Blago - “Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich declared that crime in Chicago had gotten “out of control”"
I am sure this will just help move the mayor over to Blagos side.

Don’t forget to keep asking Rod tough questions about corruption and not passing the ethics bill.
