The word ‘voters’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting in these ‘voter confidence’ stories

Posted in:

* Two recent nothing-burger stories about a few minor errors from the Center Square…

The first story is about a mistake involving a Libertarian candidate that effected 300 out of 160,000 mail-in ballots in one Cook County precinct. The ballots were already remailed. The story also includes a minor glitch reported by McLean County GOP Chair Dennis Grundler that was corrected within a day. Just one ballot was mailed to the wrong address.

The second story is about McLean County GOP Chair Dennis Grundler reporting a minor glitch with a voting machine, causing people to put 34 ballots into lockboxes until the machine could be fixed. The piece also rehashes a minor suburban story from earlier this month.

The main take-away appears to be: “Voters = McLean County GOP Chair Dennis Grundler.”

  1. “Glitch”

When people say they were “hacked”, often they just mean that someone else used their device to post something to their feeds, no hacking required. I’m skeptical that all of the voting machine glitches are actually problems with the voting software/hardware and not human errors.

  2. But the headline says voting machines malfunction across Illinois. Like it’s happening in all jurisdictions. I guess it sells.

  3. I wouldn’t believe anything Cat writes about McLean County or anywhere else. She was part of the election denying machine in McLean County and part of Insurrection Radio that organized a bus trip and was part of the January 6th happenings.

  4. I’m kinda surprised the 2nd article didn’t mention the Kankakee County Clerk’s post about how they found out the tabulator they use will only accept 5000 votes before reaching maximum capacity. This happened on October 26th. The Clerk’s office brought in a new tabulator and voting resumed as normal. Nice to hear that more than 5,000 Kankakee County residents had voted early by that date.

  5. TL;DR - All systems, including contingency plans, in McLean County are working as planned, which continues to baffle the County Party on the verge of losing the County Board.

  6. When you move from election day to election season these sorts of things raise questions. It’s a brave new world.

  7. This is part of the strategy to delegitimize elections. The goal of this stuff is undermine voter confidence. Will it work? Stay tuned.

  8. ==When you move from election day to election season==

This could have been largely deemed moot by making it national holiday.

The *only* time I’ve not voted was after commuting/working 12hrs only to be greeted by a line out the door in the cold rain at closing time.

Because the presidential election of 1960 hasn’t been fodder for Hollywood since 1960.
