* What’s going on in your part of Illinois?…
Our LSSI fundraiser is active! So far we’ve raised over $24,000! Thank you to all those who donated! But there’s so much more Holiday joy to spread, so please give if you’re able.

There were a few ballot challenges in a nearby town which had some updates yesterday. One of them was upheld, and the petitioner will be removed from the upcoming spring ballot.
The mayor of that city is on the electoral board and when the day was over, he made this statement.
“[He] said the board is “bound by the letter of law,” and if it had discretion, there would be a “different conversation.”
Basically, the mayor said he wishes he didn’t have to follow election law, to be able to keep this candidate on the ballot.
These weren’t obscure objections like the petition pages were stapled together at the wrong angle. Nope, this was an objection because the candidate completely failed to file a statement of economic interest, or even file a statement of candidacy.
Unrelated, mostly, there is also a press conference scheduled for next wednesday including Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul regarding the IL AG investigations final report published this week, into this same towns police force over the past 2 years.
Things are getting interesting around here.

Service disruptions on the L have been completely unacceptable this week. North side commuters have experienced rush hour delays in the mornings and evenings every day this week, including this morning, when the Loop-bound Brown line shut down for over an hour with no warning. Somebody, somewhere, needs to take some accountability.

My alderman in Chicago is being weird about a proposal to build 615 homes on a vacant plot in Lincoln Park. It’s putting Aldermanic Prerogative in jeopardy (yay!)
He wrote an ambiguous letter to the zoning committee, and they voted to reject the proposal.
Vice Mayor Burnett chose to not include their vote in his report to city council yesterday, and instead he gave a fiery speech about the need for investment, jobs, and new property tax in the city. Alder Ervin asked Alder Waguespack to speak plainly and tell city council if he supported it or not. Then there was a 30 minute recess and it was not voted on.
I believe this could be the first time a development is approved by running out the clock on the application. A feature of the Connected Communities Ordinance. Grab your popcorn!
Let’s hope that Springfield can fix these issues to boost housing production.

I have commented on this in the past -This is a federal matter but impacts thousands of Illinois residents - many first responders and teachers. the Social Security Fairness Act is likely to be called in the Senate - keep up the advocacy
“I am here to tell you, we are going to call the vote,” Schumer told attendees of the rally,… “The Senate is going to take action on Social Security … I’ve got my Democrats lined up to support it. We need 15 Republicans”

I am going to say that Rita Crundwell getting clemency for the fraud in Dixion seems like malarky to me.

I will add that Eric Bloom getting clemency seems a bit like malarky as well.
